My breaducation, let me show you it
Bread wank. I've never been so happy.

[info]bellasmommy posts some step-by-step photos on how to make baguettes. In her description, she mentions using a bit of sugar, as well as an egg wash. There is also a mention of using the microwave to proof the dough, and using scissors rather than a razor to score the loaves.

The finished loaves look lovely, and [info]bellasmommy says, "These loaves are awesome. The outside is lightly crusty, the inside is light and chewy and fluffy." Great, right?

Oh wait. According to [info]schlake, SHE'S DOING IT WRONG. The finished product is obviously not bread, but some demonspawn of yeast and flour.

(Now I want a macro of Senator Vreenak holding a baguette, hissing "It's a FAAAAAAAKE!") (Which, thanks to nam_jai, we now have!

PS. Bonus stock/broth wankery back in December, also courtesy of [info]schlake.

ETA: It's also in domestic_snark, stupid_free, and sf_drama.

Well here I can get bread anytime at the 24-hour supermarket, even some kinds of bakery bread. It's the fact that I'm not in Germany that's hampering me.

(Then again it wouldn't be as fresh.)

I think there's a German deli somewhere between here and work... Hmmm...

Well, unfortunately Germany had this pesky little Ladenschlussgesetz till rather recently which prohibited opening stores between 8pm and 6am from Monday to Saturday, on Sundays and on official holidays. Now every state can decide on their own (and my state supports 24/6), but most stores still close at 8pm, or 10pm at the latest. Bakeries? 6pm or even earlier.

No bread for me :(

Not even in supermarkets? Because my favourite REWE supermarket now closes at 10, and so does the bakery inside. I won't even start to describe the good things one gets there (but then, you probably had your bread in the meantime).

There's only one REWE I know of in the vicinity which actually IS open till 10pm, and unfortunately it doesn't have a bakery.

But but but I got some Graubrot in the meantime, so it doesn't matter! <3
