That because it says 'ketchup' on the Heinz bottle, so its 100% official and stuff. Heinz is the only real ketchup out there, and all you Hunts hoars can kiss it.

You are mistaken about how the maxim of relevance works. The maxim is part of Grice's Cooperation Principal, which basically states that people make certain assumptions when they communicate (the four maxims) and that when those maxims are violated the hearer assumes that the cooperation principle is still operative and the violation was intentional. The speaker is therefore using the flouting of the maxim to create an IMPLICATION.

I love (in a largely non-sarcastic fashion) that someone got this out of ketchup.

Originally I had real sympathy for the OP's desire to make their own ketchup and not be challenged about why, because I've done things like that purely for the hell of it and I don't see what's so odd about it. But all the references to high fructose corn syrup turning people into mindless zombies (except it really doesn't! I'm not saying it does, over and over, or anything!) and the pointless wanking kind of killed that.

I also mocked the claim in a Recipezaar recipe that HFCS makes kids "wild." You didn't see it because I texted that one to my gilfriend.

Actually, the girlfriend who continues to labor under the erroneous belief that I actually am good enough to . . . be with her frequently runs errands near a Whole Paycheck.

I want to make my own ketchup for the same reason I want to chose my own girlfriend

I think this roughly translates to, "You guys! I have a girlfriend!"

Wikipedia disagrees on the history of ketchup.

I'm still trying to figure out who the hell would honestly care enough to make their own ketchup. But then, I'm a bad, lazy cook. I make my rice and my tea in a microwave and use broth from a carton.

Betty Crocker would have fits.

I'm more confused about the people who're asking "why would you want to make your own ketchup anyway".

Because, hell, why not make your own ketchup? I've made my own mustard, liqueur, soap, ice cream, and jam, and I'm looking into making my own cheese. It's a weird rush, because you're used to something just coming from a bottle in the store, but then if you mix something up with your two hands and it tastes just like it, that's kind of awesome.

...Granted, I'm an enormous food geek and such things may impress me more than they do others, but -- dudes, I don't care, I've made my own amaretto from scratch! For reals! Shit, yeah, I wanna try ketchup!

Food wank in two weeks? Who spiked the drinking water over there?

I hate ketchup. Can't stand it. HP for me!

Also, having actually read the wank now: I've worked summers at a concession stand at a Little League ballpark for the last eight years. Pretty much all there is to eat is hotdogs, and I load them with ketchup and mustard. Sometimes I even eat two at a time!

OH NO I AM A ROBOT

My thoughts on ketchup, let me show you them

I hate ketchup. Absolutely hate it. And every time I order a sandwich from the cafeteria we have at uni, they have to slather it in ketchup without asking me first, and then go, "Do you wan mayonnaise on it too?" At which point I'm all, "Arrrrggh! Noooo! Get it away! I want a towel! Rinse me that hot dog right now! Get me another sandwich!"

For some reason, I think they think I'm crazy.

Now when I was a child, Branston Pickle was my yen. My mother once put a jar on my plate and asked if I wanted some food to go with it. Must find secret recipe so I’m never far away from that goodness. TK is a doddle to make in comparison.

I drown my fries in ketchup, but hot dogs are best with egg salad and shredded cheese on them.

...

What?

For diner I made homemade Sloppy Hoes with tater tots and broccoli and giggled evilly to myself every time I dipped a tot in the ketchup. Thanks for that, OTF.

Oh, damn. Now I have to take a few somebodies to lunch at this little cafe south of town to show them just how unbelievably good homemade catsup can be, and I'm on the week between paychecks.

*whines* I love ketchup, but it triggers my asthma. *pouts*

Though I loved putting honey mustard on everything when I was younger. Even mash potatoes. >.>

*wonders if that still tastes good. And, apparently, has nothing to say on wank itself*

Mmm, ketchup.

I have a love/hate relationship with ketchup. I love to make my own/when my grandma makes it, but I hate it because my husband will ruin a good piece of meat (particularly beef) by drowning it in ketchup. Woe.
