Misanthrope Overload?
Ah, Cute Overload. A site that posts pictures of cute animals, what could people possibly wank about there? As the wiki shows, plenty.

I think Meg, the blogger, loves poking the crazies. One of the most reliable sources of "commentroversy" has been her "Cats n Racks" series. Yesterday she posted a video of a cat kneading some boobies with the hopeful tag "Nancy, it's a good thing you brought this to our attention, we've been just starved for commentroversies." Sadly, the commenters behaved themselves and mostly filled the comments with anecdotes about cats kneading soft squishy objects such as nads, ouch.

Meg would not be denied her wank, though! Clearly she had to bring out something NEW, something GUARANTEED to send her readers into apoplexy.

So today she posts... A HUMAN BABY.

*ominous chord*

263 comments so far, including the following gems:
She almost made the worst mistake of her life: Good Gods I was about to send a link to cuteoverload to someone, thank goodness I checked in first. BABIES NEED NOT APPLY.

You don't understand what your blog is about Meg! I DO: human babies are not what cute overload is about!

Whereas animals are completely silent and made of plasticine: Ugh, what's with all this worshiping at the altar of the baby? Babies are not cute, they're noisy and leak fluids. Do not want!

Uhhhh...: When I look at human babies, I just imagine the adult they will grow into... but puppies and kitties, etc., are babies forever!

I also love this comment where someone ponders changing their dissertation.

And finally, some pwnage:
human babies are not cute. if this is to be a regular occurrence, everyone i know who goes to this site will stop, including myself.

[Well, I can already tell how much we'd miss you... - Ed.]

Pass the pa-sickies.

Edit: HT to [info]dragonfangirl. cf_hardcore cheers the brave commenters for speaking truth to power, or something. What's wrong with the word tummy? :(

At least the noise give you some warning, though. I've managed a couple of time to pick up a horking cat and put them on something I would much rather they spew all over than whatever it was they were on when I heard them. But still, I think they do it just 'cause they can. My oldest cat really likes to eat salad greens and asparagus, which tend to make her upchuck. WTF, CAT, CATS DON'T EAT VEGETABLES!

Dude, try telling that to my cat. Whatever Mommy's eating, that's what he wants. "No, you can't have Cheetos! And stop trying to stick your head in my Pepsi glass!"

I stayed at a friend's house last night. His cat not only tried to eat my (very spicy) curry, but also had a go at my beer.

I mean, I thought my cat's taste for small-furry-squeaky things was bad enough, but cats should have more class than to eat leftover post-pub takeaway.

...And I must remember that formating doesn't work if you don't code it right. :P

Canned peaches, pineapple, and Mandarin oranges. Not canned yogurt, coffee, and beer.

Every cat I had that had Siamese blood (2.5 of them) loved the smell and taste of mentholatum. Whenever I got a muscle-ache they'd lick the Tiger Balm or whatever I used straight off.

I never did figure that one out.

When I was a kid we had a cat who LOVED LOVED LOVED vanilla ice cream. LOVED it.

When he was still kittenlicious, my parents and I had to go out of state for a week, and we were concerned about how he'd cope being left at our house with just the neighbors coming over to feed, so we took him to my grandmother's. We brought a carton of Breyer's vanilla, with instructions to give him a small amount every now and then if he started freaking out.

Well, apparently my grandmother did not understand these instructions and ate the vanilla ice cream in front of Velcro without giving him any. Upon our return we were regaled with tales of our demon cat who had scratched her arm.

We had another cat who loved buttered toast, but she was not insane about it like Velcro.

My cat eats the hell out of my house plants. Especially when he thinks I'm not paying enough attention to him. Asshole cat. I wish he ate vegetables. Hmph.

Noelle just destroyed my mom's cactus (that didn't have stickers) and shamrock plants because she was bored. The cactus looked like she'd just cut it off with a knife. Apparently plants taste better. Same cat that likes Teddy Grahams for what it's worth and runs away from rodents.

I know the feeling well. God, putting together cat furniture should not be this hard, damn it! I'm taking it back to Walmarts because I didn't have the correct number of pieces and ended up some of the tent half shredded trying to take it apart.

Dogs have to be easier.

One of my cats eats my Christmas cactus, to the point that I had to give it back to my mom to protect it from the cat. Now, every time I visit and bring the cats, we have to remember to close the door to the room the Christmas cactus is in, because she will, I shit you not, suss it out and eat it every time. Never mind the dozen other houseplants, never mind the specially planted pot of oat grass for the cats, she will find and destroy that poor Christmas cactus.

It's funny isn't it? How they choose just certain plants. Of course Noe was trying to eat the philadenron until we moved it. We didn't want her die. They're crazy little fuckers, those cats. And for some reason, we love them.

Not so much down with cats as down with leaving my door open while I'm at school.

Actually, cats do seek out and eat greens in order to aid with their digestion, which may or may not involve making them vomit. It's instinct. If they're indoor cats it's reccommended that you grow "cat grass" for them.

I do actually know this. But I have/had cats who have a fondness for asparagus, cucumbers. tomatoes, cantaloupe, and peanuts. Those are not greens!

Do peas count? My cat used to eat my peas, but that might have less to do with aiding digestion and more because they were cooked with shrimp.

Were they cooked in butter? That might count too.

The younger of my two didn't care about the bacon I cooked today, but he faceplanted in a bowl of frozen corn I'd been eating yesterday and chowed down. Then he wanted to sit behind me on the couch and tap me on the shoulder so that he could distract me and try to stick his paw into the fresh bowl when I looked at him. I can't leave any baked goods out because the older cat will tear through the wrapper and just start gnawing away at a loaf of bread.

Ahahahah, when this one was a kitten, I caught him dragging a loaf of bread nearly as big as he was off the counter. Pretty much all the cats we've had will go after bread, but sweet baked goods are usually safe. Well, except for the chocolate ones.

Joining in the "Funny things my cat eats" thread with:

popcorn
sticks of butter (don't leave the butter out where she can see it)
the leaves from corn on the cob (no interest in the corn, but if there's unshucked corn in the fridge, she'll leap right into the fridge when it's opened to get at it)

but yet, when I throw pieces of turkey or ham in her dish, things cats should like, she gives me this "What is this shit?" look and paws them out of her dish.
