Local band breaks up, film at 11.
Redline Defiance is an alternative rock band local to Denver. They've been playing around the area for several years with varying degrees of success. As some of the members are also survivors of Columbine, they've got an interesting backstory and hook; and their music doesn't suck.

Emerson, the guitarist, is kind of a dick. (I hear his former girlfriend, a big supporter of the band, broke up with him because he cheated on her with a fan at a show while said girlfriend was helping to set up. While I would dismiss this as jealous rumors, I also kinda partially saw it go down, so there you go. Special.) But he's a talented dick. They've had a few cast changes here and there, and a few power struggles, but as recently as two weeks ago they seemed to get along okay and had a great deal of optimism about the future. Then a few days ago, Emerson used the mailing list to send an anti-everyone else screed to all fans, followers, and professional associates.

Hey everyone,

In case you haven't heard the news, I wanted to let all my friends and supporters know first hand what has happened to Redline Defiance. As most of you know I have been with RLD since the beginning almost 7 years ago. Some of you may also know that my family and I have also been the main financial support for RLD to the tune of over $30K! Not only have I made a huge financial commitment to the band but I have also poured my heart and soul into this band, and have been a major part of the song writing. Well today was a very challenging day for me as I learned that the rest of the band members have decided they no longer want me as a member of the band! This was not about my musicianship, or my song writing, this all started because I was upset that our manager expected me to pay for his overdraft charges on his personal checking account?? If you want to know more I will be happy to share the details, but at the end of the day I think they decided that if I was out of the picture the band would not be obligated to repay the money that I had invested in the band. Since my family and I have basically funded the band, we have also maintained control of Redline Defiance as an LLC. so where I go, so does the band name. I know that some of you may also be friends with the other band members, as I was, but I hope that you consider what has happened and not support them for deserting me as a dedicated member. I want to thank everyone for all your support you have given to me and the band, and hope that we can stay in touch as friends.

take care!
Emerson

Then he blanked the website. Comments on the myspace and other related communities quickly blamed the other members.

Oh, I said, this is gonna be good. Emo-tendency band + guy who's a bit of a dick + trademark/copyright issues + financial butthurt? Get my popcorn!

True enough, the other band members somehow get the mailing list and send out their own anti-Emerson lobby.

Hello Everyone,
The band formerly known as Redline Defiance (Mike, Carlos, Seth) wanted to inform our fans of our current situation and future plans. Many of you have been receiving emails the past few days from Emerson in regards to Redline Defiance breaking up. This is not TRUE, the BAND made the decision to go in a new direction without Emerson involved. In these emails Emerson stated several ways how the band stabbed him in the back, none of which are true. I am not at liberty to discuss in detail all the circumstances involved with accusations stated in his letter, and choose not to air the bands past laundry publicly. Just know this; there are always two sides to every story. Emerson chose to write these emails to our fans seeking sympathy and to raise doubts on our other member’s personal character. He then took it upon himself, to lock us out of OUR MySpace page and web-site without a chance to reply to his posted accusations (real class act). I think this childish and immature act speaks volumes towards his personal character. Through acts like these, I hope our fans can start to see what we have been dealing with in the past, and why we made the united decision to move in a new direction. Due to all the drama surrounding the recent release of Emerson Willis, we have decided to go in an entirely new direction as a band. We have spoken to legal counsel as to our rights in retaining the Redline Defiance name. We would’ve had a great chance of keeping the name, but at great expense and personal conflict with Emerson and his father. We feel this would not be worth our time or the headache. Redline Defiance was the past, and were focused on the future. We would much rather spend our time, energy and resources on developing our new project. We made the decision to let Emerson go so we could avoid these types of problems in the future. As such, we are VERY pleased to be starting with a new clean slate. We will no longer being dealing with someone who feels they are entitled with ownership of the band. The new band will be EQUAL amongst all members. We are currently working with our attorney to register our new name (trademark) and LLC. Once this process is complete and we are fully protected, we will be making an official announcement to all of our fans. We will still be able to play all of Redlines songs in the future, as Mike wrote and composed most all of Redlines songs. Emerson is free and clear to carry on the Redline name and form a new band, but I think we all know it will never be the same. We wish him the best. (snip)
We would like to apologize for any confusion or misunderstandings this change has caused. These changes needed to be made for the long term best interest of the band. We hope you can understand, and very much appreciate your continued support. We feel a great burden has been lifted off our shoulders, and we are very optimistic about the future opportunities moving forward. The bands core members are still in place and the sky is the limit. If you think Redline Defiance was great in the past, you have not heard anything yet!!! Be prepared for what we will throw down in the future, this band just became stronger and we are ready to ROCK YOUR WORLD!!!
Thanks again, and you will be hearing from us soon.
Best wishes, from the band formerly known as RLD

I'm sure that this isn't over; as is, at least it's an amusing diversion from the utterly fabulous RDR wank, a palate-cleanser if you will.
