I haven't looked at the page, and I won't, because I know it will make me mad.

But seeing morbidly obese pets and children is just as appalling to me as seeing a pet or child with bones sticking out from severe starvation.

Both are forms of abuse, and anyone whose like 'I overfeed my cat because I love him' oh please, you're sending your kitty to an early death, and that cat should be taken away from you for it's own safety. (same with children, although, that's one hell of a huge can of worms socially).

Please tell us more about your Deep Seated Issues. I for one am absolutely riveted. How do you feel about sterilizing fat people so that they cannot raise fat children? Why let that sort of horrible abuse go on in the first place, right?

Do you actually know what morbidly obese is, or are you just trying to be clever? Hmmm...

Because I used that particular word for a reason, instead of just saying, chubby, or overweight.

What about cats with E. coli? If you let your cat get E. coli, should I be legally required to call Child Protective Services on you?

If you give your cat E. coli, it will ask for a glass of milk.

Let me guess, you were frightened by a fat person as a child and still haven't gotten over it?

*raises hand* I actually agree with you--and before anyone jumps down my throat, notice the "morbidly obese" part, which is far different from merely overweight or even fat. We're talking life-threatening obesity, not just "need to lose a few pounds." Hell, I'm not exactly svelte myself. That cat's not going to live long if its owner doesn't help it lose some weight.

Actually, the latest studies on humans show that the population with the highest mortality rates overall are the underweight (with especially high rates of cancer and surprisingly, diabetes). Next are the very highest BMIs (>35) of the morbidly obese (from heart disease, some weight-related cancers, and diabetes - other death reasons are the same or less then the other BMIs).

I don't have the exact numbers in front of me, though I can find the JAMA abstract if you're interested. But I believe that the next highest mortality is normal weights, then the other versions of obese and morbidly obese. Overweight people die the least often, and have the lowest rates of disease overall.

All of these numbers have been adjusted to make sure that they're not based on the old and ill losing weight as a result of these. These numbers have not been widely reported on by the media, probably because it would show that the scientists really know very little about the so-called "obesity crisis".

Of course, these are numbers are 1. based on humans, which might have fuck all to do with cats, and 2. are based on BMI, which is notoriously inaccurate.

*gets off soapbox*
