uniforms = fascism
There's wank in the Fark pool again.

The following article gets posted with a "Hero" tag:

Following the school district's implementation of a uniform policy, parents complained that they can't afford uniforms, principal fights back sending an email saying that they should think about their child's education [Article]

Comments start off agreeing with the principal (who is actually a board member), but TheCid is not amused.

TheCid | 2008-04-26 10:08:07 PM
What I want to know is, since when does the government have the power to tell people (regardless of age) what to wear?

How is this not a ridiculous overstepping of their constitutional bounds? How can anyone support this blatant authoritarianism??

the shaman takes a real shining to our boy, and the love affair begins:

TheCid | 2008-04-26 10:25:11 PM
Good to identify yet another person who's part of the problem with this nation. Farking authoritarian followers.

the shaman | 2008-04-26 10:27:48 PM
I've got you farkied as "stupid, paranoid, atheist asshole"

You are the problem.

...And ends:

TheCid | 2008-04-26 10:40:04 PM
You're a lunatic who believes in shamanism and supports tearing down the wall of separation between church and state. You're an deluded fool with no grip on reality.
The fact that you support the authoritarians here in no way surprises me.

Welcome to my ignore list, farktard.

real shaman | 2008-04-26 10:58:46 PM
woooooo!!!! I'm on a dumbass's ignore list.

The rest of the 561 comments (and counting!) result in a dog piling of TheCid, whose ignore list seems to be a desirable goal:

Arthur Jumbles | 2008-04-26 10:58:12 PM
Could you please put me on your ignore list too? Please. I'd put you on mine except I'm not afraid to listen to points of view that differ from my own and as such don't use one.

Some Bass Playing Guy | 2008-04-26 10:59:06 PM
One look at TheCid's picture in his profile tells me all I need to know about him. You know that one person in your circle of friends that nobody likes, but nobody can quite tell that person? That's TheCid. [Profile]

He looks like the punks whose lunch money ended up in my pocket.

jmmsmile | 2008-04-26 11:17:14 PM
Oooh oooooh! I wanna be on TheCid's ignore list! Pleeeease!!!

You little popcorn fart.

Communism is called:

KoalaFace | 2008-04-26 11:15:58 PM
you seem to be awfully overbearing about your precious crotch dropplings 'freedoms.' Face the facts- this world/country/state/education system is not about YOU. It is about what is the best for the WHOLE. What is best for the whole appears to be school uniforms, for the reasons previously stated.

Don't you think that if EVERYONE in this thread is disagreeing with you quite adimately, that maybe, just maybe, you could be wrong?

TheCid | 2008-04-26 11:18:36 PM
You posting on fark is not the best for the whole. Get back to work, comrade. This country is supposed to be about individual freedom.

Not that many people actually give a shiat about freedom anymore.

real shaman | 2008-04-26 11:24:33 PM
You know who else made lame jokes about communism?

farc | 2008-04-26 11:25:29 PM

real shaman | 2008-04-26 11:31:01 PM
I remember now where I argued with thecid before....

He was in total agreement with the requirement of mandatory service for high school students.

It was totally ok then for government officials to tell your kids what to do.

One last funny before it turns into a bullying discussion and repeats from those late to the party:

KoalaFace | 2008-04-26 11:48:25 PM
[TheCid: What happened to your mother was wrong. The school had no business ordering her to change her hairstyle, and the fact that you still support this uniform bullshiat even though you know that story just confirms my suspicions- you are an idiot.

What good is health without freedom?]

you're a grad student, aren't you?

Also, bonus John Stuart Mill discussion starting at 2008-04-26 11:59:50 PM

Me and my boss argue about uniforms all the time. She comes to work in a pantsuit, and I come to work in jeans and a t-shirt and we debate over who has the most reason to live.

I still don't get why jeans always end up getting forbidden though. Not in our arguments, she's just glad I don't dress like the girl employee anymore. I mean, in dress codes.

Because they have actual pockets, and women can't have pockets in their pants. Not good pockets, anyway. Ones that have everything come out every time you sit down are fine.

Not bitter about dress pants, no way.

Well, that's be for me, anyway.

Overall, I have no clue. Because they want you to have to buy an entirely new wardrobe before working somewhere?

Probably a left-over from the days when jeans were either 1) specifically meant for outdoor work, or 2) symbols of the radical hippie/counterculture thing. Also, it's tough to draw a line on just which jeans kids can wear. Maybe new, nice-looking jeans are okay, but if you have to start judging at just which point jeans get too worn, stained, or crappy-looking, you'll start getting OMGFASCIST hassles, so may as well say no to all of them and be done with it.

Wouldn't a simple "Don't wear stressed/ripped jeans" type rule work, or is there some wriggle room in that?

Never seen what's wrong with jeans, myself. I own some very smart jeans. And alone amongst ladies' trousers, as the commenter about said, the pockets actually fulfill their intended purpose.

Yeah, but that's just the kind of judgment call I imagine school officials don't want to be bothered with. Just what is the difference between jeans that are kinda faded and "stressed"? Everybody would be drawing the line at a different place. It's probably too much hassle to deal with when there are lots of other pants kids can wear. Since these days there's so much tendency for kids and parents to freak out over things, the school's probably thinking better to just not deal with it at all.

Jeans usually end up banned because people don't have common sense and don't know how to dress. Like the superlow rise jeans with the panties hanging out, or the way baggy pants with the underwear sticking out, or paint-spattered washed-out 25-year-old jeans that should have been thrown away years ago...yeah, not so office appropriate.

I still think the dumbest thing I ever had on a dress code was SallieMae, which banned capris, but you could wear gauchos but not with boots to the knee. O_o But they didn't have rules for, say, skirts other than length. So you could completely wear a skirt with knee-boots, but not gauchos (which is how you wear them!). Whatever, crazy company I'm glad I left. Whatever.

Or the color! Yeah, a nice pair of dark jeans is not the same thing as an identical pair of jeans in light blue.

At ACOG the dress code was gender-neutral. I wondered what would happen if a man showed up to work in a skirt or dress that didn't violate said code.

Jeans are evil. They leave ugly black marks on the floor. Or maybe that's black shoes and only applies to gym class. Why are jeans banned in gym, anyway?

My school technically had rules, but they were easily overcome. I never really had a problem with them, seeing as how I just wore t-shirts and jeans, but one girl I knew was constantly pushing it until she finally got taking aside for punishment. She started crying, though, and they let her off without so much as a slap on the wrist.

Workwise, I haven't been so lucky — except for my work study job, of course. And I absolutely hate Burger King uniforms. D:

And this is why I chose a career in which the standard dress is scrubs. It's like wearing pajamas all day long! Wouldn't you like to wear pajamas to work?

The one good thing about telesurveying was that they let the employees wear whatever the hell they wanted, because, you know, the people on the other end of the phone can't see you. So as long as you sound professional, it doesn't matter whether you're wearing a suit or jeans or a sparkly princess dress or what.
