Internet Lawyers -- Not Just for Publishers Anymore
A Dartmouth professor has decided to sue her students (with some faculty thrown in) for discrimination. Supposedly, "discrimination" now entails students disagreeing with you. Who knew?

(If you don't want to wade through all that, there are also summaries at Gawker and IvyGate.)

This actually reminds me (well, the description does, I haven't read the wank itself) of a brouhaha that happened at my university in my junior year. A professor was coming to campus at night to speak at a race-issues forum. She came out afterwards to find her tires slashed, windows broken in, and the words "KIKE WHORE" spraypainted over the hood.

Next day was the only time the uni cancelled classes, for race issues awareness marches.

Course a couple months later it was revealed that the professor had staged the whole thing as a roundabout method of insurance fraud. Kind of flavored the whole thing with irony.

There was talk of making race issues class part of the graduation requirements. Does that count?

(Not that my school didn't occasionally also have REAL race issues. I remember, over one of the spring breaks, a group of Pomona students set fire to a cross on the lawn of a black Harvey Mudd student. Then claimed that it was for an "art project" and that they had had NO IDEA that there was a racial implication to their actions.)

Stupidity, or knowing they'd get away with it? That is the question.
