Semper Fur
So, there's a country singer named Kelly Foxton who likes to dress up her pet squirrel in little outfits. Lots and lots of little outfits.

Now, Sugar Bush is no ordinary squirrel. She is a patriotic squirrel! Many of the pictures on the site are bizarrely militaristic, and frankly, just a liiiittle creepy. Here, for example, Sugar Bush inspects the gallows in preparation for Saddam Hussein's assassination.

The fun begins when the Sugar Bush Squirrel (TM!) page gets linked on Cute Overload.

There is plenty of the expected, "ZOMG, dressing up your squirrel is WRONG!" wank. However, the wank truly becomes golden when people begin hotly debating Sugar Bush's politics. Jamie kicks it off by remarking that the site is "Cute. But far too right wing." Several others chime in to agree with Jamie, but Squirrel lover is incensed:

Not to add into the commentroversy... but "too right wing"???

So, no one can have an opinion or outlook that may be different from yours?

And people wonder why I don't respect so-called "liberals"

Loretta wants to know why Ms. Foxton is spending all of her time making squirrel outfits when she could be contributing to the betterment of the world!

pandasocks quotes a passage from Sugar Bush's website that is worth the price of admission all by itself:

"Sugar Bush has even attracted the attention of the enemy. 'I get e-mails from Arabs — I even sent one of them to the CIA,' Foxton says. 'I think for a while they've been intercepting my e-mails anyway.' According to Foxton, this particular correspondent claimed to know the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden, but the CIA wasn't interested in following up the tip.

"'They should check every lead — don't fluff us off,' Foxton says. 'This guy has information about Osama, and he's willing to tell Sugar Bush.'

turkey bear is offended by the image of the squirrel as a Catholic priest!

fifi sums up the whole bizarre situation best:

the thing about the politics is...
really, what political message is sent by dressing up your squirrel in military garb?

It borders on the parodic, or the surreal.
Too aesthetically bizarre to be deemed mere partisanship--regardless of the conscious intentions of the artist.

It's a rodent-folk-art version of Cindy Sherman!

SQUIRREL WANK.

POLITICAL SQUIRREL WANK!

It's like Xmas morning! :D

Also, I couldn't help but think of Veruca Salt when I read this. XD "Daddy, I want a SQUIRREL! A PATRIOTIC SQUIRREL!"

Heeee, me too. I loved the way the Veruca in the newer movie said it, too--like, "Sk-wur-relllll," or something. So that's what I keep thinking of.

Forget the right wing crap, Foxton dressed the rodent up as JON BENET RAMSEY. Then she posed it clinging to the top of a palm tree to commemorate tsunami victims.

That's a special kind of tasteless, right there.

Oh man, I didn't even see those. D:

I found the web page a little too annoying to navigate so I didn't get to see many of the pictures. That's pretty damn tasteless.

What the ever-loving FUCK?!

This actually just... makes me really angry, so before I start wanking all over the place I'm just going to go listen to Explosions in the Sky and forget I saw it.

"Sugar Bush" and a weird conservative angle? I think we've found ourselves a squirrel who's fangirling someone pretty hard. That is to say, I read this wank and the first thing that came to mind was "OH JOHN RINGO NO".

I was, of course, aware that sparkly text has powers of awesome far beyond human ken, but then I was confronted by the sparkly American flag. Wow. Just wow.

They should check every lead — don't fluff us off,

Man, I know exactly what she means. My dog was answering his emails the other day and this Muslim Chihuahua he'd been chatting with totally told him exactly where Osama shops for his groceries. So we emailed the CIA and they completely ignored us. Like we were crazy or something. I mean really, would my dog lie about something like that?

That site is giving me flashbacks to the old version of the jingoistic strip FaithMouse. I just hope SomethingAwful doesn't talk THIS webmaster into becoming a furry porn artist, because the consequences would be beyond dire.

I saw that post! Thought the squirrel outfits were cute - they reminded me of the Wegman dogs. I didn't go to the site, though, so the only military one I saw was the "Semper Fur" pic posted on CU. It made me roll my eyes at the bad pun, but otherwise...meh. There are worse ways to spend your time than dressing up a squirrel.

But it's SO EFFING CUTE
