Boing?
I don't think I've ever seen BoingBoing wank here - is there a reason for that or just that nobody thinks to look there? The place explodes at least once a fortnight, and an experienced wanka can pick where the good stuff is gonna hit. The lastest 'splodey on the forum follows one of Cory Doctorow's posts - Hot day fun for kids - paint the house with water!

You can probably see where this is going: the "Don't you know there's a drought on?" folks are slugging it out with the "let the kids have their fun" folks, so there's fun for all.

Just a tip - for those who don't regularly frequent BoingBoing, it's a moderated forum - if someone has pissed a mod off you'll see their post come up "disemvowelled" - you can usually make out what is being said if you want to hard enough.

I couldn't find any tags that said "conservation" or "environmentalism", so I've left them off - sorry!

Some BoingBoing wank of the "JKR is a greedy h0r because she's a rich person trying to protect her copyright" sort was posted in one of the many Lexicon trial posts.Though on second thought it may have just been mentioned in the comments.

Ah, well that would explain why I missed it - I've been skimming Lexicon wank for months :-)

I think my mom's done this to me a few times...

Ooh! Great play idea!

"Here, kids. Why don't you paint the house with this bucket of water? Oh, wait, let me put some soap in it, and some sponges. Make sure you paint the windows real good. And paint daddy's car, too, will ya? And after that, you can 'paint' the front yard with the lawnmower. Now get to wor...uh, playing. Daddy's gonna go play 'dead' in the hammock."

Heeeey - I think mine might have as well! LOL - reminds me of that Japanese invention that was a little baby romper suit that doubled as a mop - kid would clean the floor as s/he crawled :-)

Oh, my mom's zany little games... I also remember "reverse towel Jenga" where we'd have to pile tiny squares of towel into the closet without letting them topple over and the speed drills she orchestrated while we were weighted down by black plastic bags filled with used and useless items from the kitchen.

Clever clever woman.

Oh god, the more I read this, the more it BURNS. I'm guessing the majority of the wankers either A) have no kids, B) don't understand kids, or C) have no idea how to interest kids in science and the environment. Making kids go outside and play is what will raise our next generation of environmentalists, not having them sit inside on their hands lest they waste a gallon of precious water.

/cleans up the stains.

Yeah. I don't have kids (or want them) either, but I don't think a bucket of water is going to spell the end of the world, either. If I had to watch one on a hot day, I think I'd be giving them a hat, a bucket and a brush.

Honestly, you can always count on this sort of wank on BB. There was a sweet video posted a few weeks ago of a baby in a bouncer bouncing to his Mum playing the banjo, and there was wank over how terrible bouncers are. Or any cute animal video is always followed by animal lib wank. It's quite predictable over there, but it can be fun.

Reminds me of this IRL wank I got to listen to at the zoo. You know many zoo exhibits these days use ponds instead of dry moats as a barrier to keep their animals in the exhibits? They look natural, provide habitats for wild animals, etc. Apparently that does not mitigate the fact that water evaporates off them. (to clarify, I live in Portland, Oregon. A 'water shortage' around here means the grass might get a bit yellow in the summer)

Clean water is too important to waste. Since I live in a suburb and don't have a rain barrel (can you believe my apartment community doesn't allow barrels of fetid mosquito breeding water on our porch??) or any other readily available supply of untreated water I think I'll jump in the SUV and drive down to the nearest river to pick some up. Thanks for the tip!

I really hope someone responds to that comment seriously. It would be glorious.

Shit, man, I used to do that! My dad could give me a bucket and a paintbrush and that would be all it took to keep me entertained for hours. Paint the house, paint patio furniture, paint trees, paint the sidewalk, paint my tricycle, paint the dog, it's all good!

Wow, what a waste of water. While your kid is busing wasting water, do you delightfully mull over the large population in the world who DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO CLEAN DRINKING WATER?

Children should never play with water. They should play with gasoline-based plastic toys, the way God intended. Those toys will never bio-degrade, so it's better for the environment and you can use them forever.

Do they really think that a 2 year old had either the attention span or the height to paint the entire house? 'Cause that's the only way he'd be using more than a bucket-full.

Meanwhile, we have a picture somewhere in our albums of my brother and his best friend "painting" the chopping block with white-tighties on their heads for construction hats.

Why, in my day we were silicon based lifeforms, without any of this fancy water or namby-pamby carbon. Kids these days!
