Coffeewank!
This is an example of the wailing and gnashing of teeth that can ensue when you take coffee too seriously. Or, depending on which side you take, what happens when you don't take it seriously enough.

Jeff Simmermon of the And I Am Not Lying blog wanted an iced triple espresso from Murky Coffee in DC. He's informed that it's against Murky's policy to serve iced espresso, and when he orders the espresso and a cup of ice, he's told that "What you’re about to do … that’s really, really Not Okay." Simmermon takes exception to the barista's attitude, posts about it on his blog, and also shows the tip he left at Murky. The comments explode, some taking sides with Simmermon, others with the barista; the blog post ends up  linked on BoingBoing; and the owner of Murky responds with a highly unambiguous "Fuck you, Jeff Simmermon".

Insert joke here about everyone needing to lay off the caffeine.

If there's one thing I've learned from hanging around journalfen, it's that no subject is too small, obscure, or mundane to generate wank. It's only a matter of time before we get something about, I dunno, tea varietals. Or paper size.

I've seen real life arguments over paper while I was working for the shithole that is Kinko's, so I'm positive it'll end up in a wank comm eventually.

As someone who works at a tea company: yes, yes it is.

the tea vs. tisane dust-ups I've been privy to IRL would leave the bread wank in the dust if it were online. And that's not even counting the steep-time, water temperature, serving styles, loose vs. bagged... the list goes on!

I could certainly imagine wank about A4 versus US letter paper. Is this a version of Rule 34?

Seems like a definite subclause or corollary, I'd say.

Ooh, I bet there'd be wank over teabags vs leaf tea. My dad takes this very seriously, to the point that he would NEVER drink teabag tea. I bet people would totally wank over that.

My boss is Persian (his term; he hails from Iran). He r srs tea connoiseur Persian guy. When he saw me use teabags, he wrinkled his nose and said, sounding very confused, "But why would you use a teabag, there are no whole leaves in there! How does it taste of tea at all? That is not tea, that is - tea DUST."

I am now ttly spoiled from his awesome tea. But I still use teabags too because ANMSDHJDA NOM NOM Barry's irish tea. XD

Your first sentence reminded me of this scene from So NoTORIous:

Sasan: Persian!
Tori: What's the difference?
Sasan: ...They're kinda the same thing.
Tori: But I thought Persia, like... closed?
Sasan: No, it was just re-branded as Iran when the English pulled out. Plus, Persian's more glamorous - who owns an Iranian cat?

AHAHAHAHAH, tea dust. I totally need to tell my dad that, because I love teasing him about his facist tea preferences.

"You know, one day you'll drink so much tea that we'll run out and the only thing left will be TEA BAGS. WHAT THEN??"

"That's why Woolworths is open until nine-thirty."

I've seen a lot of RL wank about paper size, so it's only a matter of time.

I work in academia. It's alarmingly similar.
