I'm disappointed. He's missing the part about it being a hommage, or an inside joke, or maybe a social experiment.

True. As an excuse, "I copied press releases, not realizing the publicist was just sharing favorable articles published elsewhere" doesn't seem to have any fandom equivalent, alas.
