Record-smashing Olympic swimmer and half-naked hottie Michael Phelps has a Facebook page, where his fans can post comments about their sincere appreciation for his athletic achievements. That's clearly what one FB user had in mind when he created the discussion "How many guys wanna #*%^ Michael?" Some of Michael's sweet and innocent fans don't appreciate this depraved line of conversation. Others tell them to lighten up. Censorship is invoked, religions are bashed, butts are hurt, homophobia is paraded about, Godwins gets a nod, and I'm just waiting for the swimslash to show up. Or Michael. Michael should definitely show up.

That's one of the first things I pointed out this year to my sister when we started watching swimming. "Look! He grew into those ears he had 4 years ago! We're not left wanting with Ian Thorpe retired!"

Yanno, there's one extra bit of stupid that sticks out to me about wanking on facebook. Most of the time.... people are using their real names on there. @___@

That... actually sounds like it might be fun.

But then my son recently declared that God does not smite sinners, He slaps them, which leaves me with the mental image of God (who bears a disturbing resemblance to Anthony Andrews in "The Scarlet Pimpernel") slapping someone across the face with a pair of gloves and crying, "Take THAT, sinner!" Eh Personally to me Phelps is just kinda goofy looking. Great Swimmer but not exactly my idea of good eye candy.

Though in general I'm just kind of sick of hearing about him. Esp folks calling him the greatest Olympian ever. Greatest Olympic Swimmer ever sure fine but given the sheer amount of medals available in swimming compared to other sports it bugs me that More medals seems to equal better Athlete in some folks minds.

And before any Phelps fans jump down my throat for saying that. I acknowledge that swimming is a difficult sport and excelling at the various strokes takes hard work. But so does excelling at the Decathlon (10 events) but there's only one medal for decathlon competitors to fight over.

Ah, this takes me back to being a 13 year old Ian Thorpe fangirl back in 1999-2000. Less with the homophobia and bible bashing, but more with the vehemently denying he could EVER be gay and the terrible terrible self-insert Mary Sue fanfiction. And the cruel bashing of any woman who dares to be seen with him.

Of course, 8 years on I've actually met one of the girls he was photographed with, and she claimed she was a beard and it was the most uncomfortable night of her life. So now I can wholeheartedly embrace the swimslash! Mmm, Eamon Sullivan...
