Entry tags:at least her mommy loves her, bad service, change is bad, defensiveness ahoy, i used to be a therapist!, miss cleo told me i'm special, paper is obsolete!, pretention, special snowflake syndrome, writing shit down is hard :(, your rules don't apply to me

Keeping track of checks is for old people and losers with low credit scores
Over in bad_service, beccaweccavt makes a post about some "bad service" she receives from a mechanic who charges her less than they should have but OMG doesn't cash her check immediately! The denizens of bad_service are confused. beccaweccavt then proceeds to let the community know that she's unable to keep track of her written checks because she's a bookkeeper for a large corporation and has a credit score of 800.

Keep on truckin', beccaweccavt. Keep on truckin'.

I feel that I, too, must experience this sort of bad service just to prove to the world that it is bad service. I need a local example of this very same garage. Then I will continuously go there as an experiment and save massive amounts of money on my car repairs just to see if the reason that my check didn't clear is because *GASP* the poor fucker might be out of town or drunk or something seeing as it was a holiday weekend.

also lol at the "i'm a bookkeeper and I don't have to keep track of my finances". LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Yeah, I got some terrible service from Swiss Chalet a couple days ago. I ordered one chicken dinner, and wound up with two, and was only charged for the one.

Me: *blink* I have a second chicken dinner.
Boyfriend: Huh. How about that. Did they charge you?
Me: No, look. *points to receipt* So. Wanna free dinner?
Boyfriend: Sure.

Seriously? Easier to keep the balance in my head, and, when one loses things a lot, more permanent than paper.

It's hard for me because I have dysgraphia so my check register ends up an illegible hell (otherwise I'd use it). That's why I keep register receipts, use a calculator and a text editor to balance my checkbook and keep a record of spending, and check transactions online. But why would anyone get all rageful about a check they wrote not clearing for a week? Checks I wrote the phone company often didn't clear for a month.

Our mechanic only takes cash. CASH.

It is not my business to worry about his tax returns and how he files them, but I have to say that I am somewhat skeptical.

The logic there is stunning. Couldn't be that they don't like to deal with computers or the paperwork or pay for the privilege- never. They simply MUST be crooks.

The butthurt coming from this one is incredible. I wonder what she would have done if the credit collapse in the U.S had actually happened and her precious, 'non-dirty' cards were useless.

I was under the impression that Americans often liked using the float on their checks to get a couple days' extra interest?

Well, it's more often the case that people depend on the float to have enough time to actually get the money to cover the check into the account, these days.

I have a credit score over 800, no debt, a healthy savings account,

But you have to spend so much time remembering not to spend $150 ear marked for that check? Doesn't "a healthy savings account" imply that you've got quite a bit set aside for emergencies and people not cashing checks right away?

I have enough money saved up that I was able to go on vacation to Japan for two weeks last month

Yes, we get it. You can afford to go to Japan for two weeks. You've repeated this five or six times.

How this is relevant to the suck, I still don't know.

Also, doing bookkeeping for a multi-million dollar corporation... [snip] My finances are pretty basic and don't require multiple linked spreadsheets, Access databases, etc.

Can this be considered the accounting equivalent of "I have an psychology degree... ON THE INTERNET"?
