My own "why don't you just put both lids down, then everyone has to lift something" suggestion seems to be getting a lot of play.

To be honest, I do that and I live alone. I read this one time that the most germ transference occurs when you flush and little water droplets fly into the air and get on stuff, so now I always shut the lid just before I flush to trap the flying air droplets. I don't bother lifting it again until I go again.

To be honest I don't know where I read that exactly so I'm not even 100% sure it's true, but I've been doing it long enough that it's become total habit.
