We keep the seat and lid down to keep the cats out. Closing the door means someone's in there (there's one bathroom in the house and three people). Nothing sadder than falling back to sleep in the middle of the night, in the hallway, leaning against the closed door only to wake up in the morning and find out no one was actually in there.
