The corollary to this is that when you live alone, you KNOW how you left the toilet.

I live alone. I'm a girl. I almost never put the seat up except to clean the toilet.

One day I got home from work and found the seat was up. I was QUITE sure I'd left it down that morning. This was less "mysterious" than "skeevy", because a guy who worked for my landlord had been at the house all day, doing work on the outside. I happened to know that my landlord had used his key to come in and use my bathroom back when HE was doing work on the house. (I disabused him of this habit early; but, at least he knew I had cats and was careful of them.) The guy who was working there that day had a key, I knew. I confronted him about it; he denied it. But DUDE -- the CATS did not leave the toilet seat up, okay? And neither did the single woman who lives in the apartment.

(The other skeevy thing was just that... I also knew that this particular guy had gotten in trouble when he was doing some work in the apt. of the single woman who lived above me; had flirted with her, and been gentle rebuffed; and then she came home one day -- AFTER he had supposedly finished the work there, and was working on a different part of the building -- to find that he let himself in her apt. and had done her dishes for her... and left her a note about it. BOUNDARY ISSUES.)
