Entry tags:brush-a brush-a brush-a brush me, i wanna feel dirty, microwave of the night

Riding on the wave of the toilet flush...
Nuke those toothbrush germs!

I wish I could link to individual comments directly; instead, let's try this:

#4: The first voice of dissent.
#6: What do I do with an electric toothbrush?
#11: What do I do without a microwave? Provide alternative plz.
#12: Why would they provide an alternative?
#14: I'm a dentist and I approve of this message.
#17: Remove the battery from your electric toothbrush, DUH.
#26: I'M A DENTIST AND I DISAPPROVE OF THIS MESSAGE.
#51: My battery is sealed in, dumbass.
#57: The First Ammendment says you have to provide the alternative!
#64: This is as stupid as Obama's tax plan.
#69: Enter citations!
#71: Winner.

And then it gets better: it's a government plot, it's the fault of CHINA, inexplicable invocation of Dick Cheney, let me show off the brand of my toothbrush! 110 comments and counting. [ETA: Bizarre science at #121!]

#85: Putting anything in a micro wave oven is not good. Food become's toxin and value is reduced a lot like 80% (pulp)... Common sense is all it takes to tell you using a microwave is bad news.

I think this guy failed Food Science 101.

I find that soaking my toothbrush periodically in water mixed with hydrogen peroxide really works. You can see the foaming and know the germs are being killed.

The fail is endemic.

I love the people who clean their toothbrush with peroxide. Because peroxide will not react with the plastic of your toothbrush at all. Nope.

Ummm...this is probably the dumbest thing I have ever heard of in my hole life. Almost as dumb as people that don't realize obama's tax plan ACTUALLY calls for raising peoples taxes in 2010 that make over $42,000.00 a year.

I SEE WHAT HE DID THERE. I'm so totally going to start using any and every comment section on the internet to talk about MY pet causes, too! Starting now!

...but seriously, folks, why are we wasting time talking about toothbrush germs when David Bowie hasn't been on Doctor Who yet? Have they even asked him?? David Bowie levels are at an all-time low, and I, for one, will not be distracted from this very important issue. MICROWAVING TOOTHBRUSHES IS ALMOST AS STUPID AS NOT HAVING DAVID BOWIE ON MY FAVORITE TV SHOW.

This is the official thread for telling us about your toothbrush.

I'll start! Mine has probably achieved sentience by now. Never mind the high-tech sterilization, does anyone actually replace their toothbrush every X months? It seems like diligence and brainpower that could be used on something far better... like getting David Bowie on, oh, any show he likes.

I am absolutely paranoid about leaving my toothbrush out in the ‘open’. So, what do I do … I store my toothbrush in my freezer when I am done brushing.

Ah I love germaphobes and their abject terror of the microscopic. Should I tell them there are thousands of germs covering every surface, including their skin? Or do you think that'll just get them washing their hands bloody again?

Ah, didn't the Mythbusters prove that microscopic fecal matter can and will land on your toothbrush no matter where you keep it in the bathroom home? But that the toilet seat is almost devoid of germs?

Ick all around.

I bet there's a market for disposable toothbrushes, like those little foam-on-a-stick things they give you in hospitals. NO ONE MARKET MY IDEA! IT'S MINE!

Personally? I rather enjoy the complexion of my teeth. It's a rich, creamy, banana tan and it goes well with my 1960's khaki speedo. I think brushing your teeth is an overrated concept and we should keep it "natural". After all, neanderthals had no toothbrushes right? I love my butterscotch teeth and i'm content to brushing once a month and alternating between toothbrushes every 1 to 6 years. And besides, putting your toothbrush in a microwave, where one cooks dinner for the kids??! That's NASTY!

Mr. Brightsmiles, tootles!

*pukes*

As a newly graduated Dental Assistant who is seriously rethinking her chosen career I cannot describe how disgusting that is.

Although it could be worse. Did you know that if you don't brush at all mold grows on your teeth? Green mold, I am not even kidding.

I'M A DENTIST AND IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE STERILIZATION YOU NEED 20 PSI AND ABOUT 120-130 C FOR ABOUT 20 MINS IN A AUTOCLAVE.

DR. CAPSLOCK is essentially correct, except for the fact that you NEVER PUT PLASTIC IN AN AUTOCLAVE. For some strange reason it doesn't work out well.

At night before bed, I take a half cup of bleach and pour it into the toilet. Then I take about 18 inches of dental floss, I tie one end of it to the bottom of my tooth brush and tie the other end to the front of the toilet seat. When I lower the seat, the toothbrush goes into the water and bleach. When I get up in the morning, I flush the toilet which rinses off the toothbrush. I can then brush my teeth with a clean toothbrush and floss with the dental floss used to tie the toothbrush to the toilet seat. The bonus is that my toilet bowl stays nice and fresh too!
Much safer that using the microwave and it works even when there isn't any electricity available (storms, hurricanes, blackouts, etc.)

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA WTF THAT IS AWESOME.

I'm-a-gonna sit on my hands and avoid teal deering about all the stupid in that thread, okay?

Although comment number 44 is filling me with the rage of epic fail- the reason you don't get sick from every illness you encounter is called your innate and adaptive IMMUNE SYSTEMS, not "Happy thinking keeps the germs away!"

I understand there's power in positive thinking in healing, but it's a bit of a personal peeve because it leads to 'People with mental illnesses don't need medications, they just need happy thoughts.' And to thinking there's no harm what-so-ever in not vaccinating children due to complete lack of understanding of how vaccines work.
