Entry tags:brush-a brush-a brush-a brush me, i wanna feel dirty, microwave of the night

Riding on the wave of the toilet flush...
Nuke those toothbrush germs!

I wish I could link to individual comments directly; instead, let's try this:

#4: The first voice of dissent.
#6: What do I do with an electric toothbrush?
#11: What do I do without a microwave? Provide alternative plz.
#12: Why would they provide an alternative?
#14: I'm a dentist and I approve of this message.
#17: Remove the battery from your electric toothbrush, DUH.
#26: I'M A DENTIST AND I DISAPPROVE OF THIS MESSAGE.
#51: My battery is sealed in, dumbass.
#57: The First Ammendment says you have to provide the alternative!
#64: This is as stupid as Obama's tax plan.
#69: Enter citations!
#71: Winner.

And then it gets better: it's a government plot, it's the fault of CHINA, inexplicable invocation of Dick Cheney, let me show off the brand of my toothbrush! 110 comments and counting. [ETA: Bizarre science at #121!]

Ah but what do you do if you have neither a microwave, nor a dishwasher? (I have neither. Woe.)

Wouldn't that make the bristles melt?

If it would, though, then wouldn't all the other stuff do that as well? And at least this way you're not potentially messing up an appliance.

Actually, I'd be afraid of the microwave doing it, too. I don't know if a dishwasher using boiling water.

I guess you could always just heat it up, but not to the boiling point.

It has never melted my toothbrush or my contact cases.
I don't take it all the way to a rolling boil, just the simmer-point where the little tiny bubbles break to the surface.

Oh, and you don't stick the plastic things IN the pot you boil the water in, you boil the water and pour it over the stuff you want to sterilize.

Dunk it in Listerine! If it's good enough for your mouth it's good enough for your toothbrush.

Boiling outright might kill the toothbrush as well, but pouring boiling water over it works decently. It's an old way to sterilise baby equipment, too.
