Gay marriage wank? In MY community?
A secret about prop 8 is posted to this post in Fandom secrets. And we get twofold wank for it, too!

Wank #1: FOMG HOW IS THIS NOT A 'NOT-SECRET' THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FANDOM WHATSOEVER! This one is small, though, because the modly type froze the comments.

Wank #2: Gay is wrong. No u! No u! NO U! NO U! And that's all within the first three pages.

Also, liking het means you hate gay marriage. Srsly. And there's macros. And people loling over all the wank this caused. And there's also a thread of d'awwww.

I chose to post it here instead of fandom wank because almost all of the arguments were not fandom related. And there was even an argument about that, too!

Okay, here's a completely off the top of my head list:

1) In S1 a recurring character implies that he's been sexin' some British soldiers during WW2. Said character then joins the cast and flirts like crazy with the Doctor and Rose, that season's female lead, kissing both of them in the S1 finale. (said character is not actually gay; he's from the 51st century where everyone is more or less bi. He also now has his own spin off where he continues to flirt with everything that moves.)

2) S3: Shakespeare hits on the Doctor. He also hits on Martha, S3's female lead.

3) Also S3: in Gridlock, two little old ladies refer to themselves as married.

4) S4: in Midnight a female character uses "she" when referring to a former lover and no one bats an eye.

That's quite the gay agenda RTD's got going on. *rolls eyes* How dare he imply that in hundreds of years society might move forward!

There was also the son in "The Unicorn and the Wasp" who had a semi-secret romance with a male servant, which was portrayed objectively as rather sweet but treated by the other characters (parents, mostly) as improper.

Dang it, I knew I missed something.:) I got the feeling that the objection was as much a combination of it being with a servant and the son being so bad at keeping it quiet as being horrified at Teh Gay, really.

Not to mention that he's their only heir and not likely to produce any grandchildren to continue the family line.

Plus there was Mary Sue Rose using "gay" as a synonym for "stupid" without getting called on it or thinking better of it later or even having it be presented as a questionable sort thing to do at all, so yeah, that's something I'd expect to see in a show with a gay agenda, sure.

Uh, I'm pretty sure she was using is as a synonym for "effeminate" or "excessively concerned with prettiness of face" rather than "stupid".

Still a bit awkward, though.

She was using it as a pejorative, the same way everyone else does when they use it as a pejorative, "stupid" or "ridiculous" or "effeminate" or whatever. It was an insult, and a bigoted one, and something I would never have expected to hear from Doctor Who, and the fact that the episode was written by a gay man who clearly holds that particular character in extremely high regard as someone who can do no wrong makes it even worse.

Really? Which episode? Not that I'm calling you a lying liar who lies about lying, it's just been a while since I've watched Rose episodes and I can't remember that one.

"Aliens of London", near the beginning, during her conversation with the Doctor on the roof of her building, just before the spaceship comes falling past. The Doctor's whining about her mother slapping him, and she says something like, "You are so gay!" There was no reason for it, and the Doctor doesn't call her on it, and a lot of viewers complained but Rusty basically didn't give a shit.

Rusty - bringing you equal-opportunity cultural insensitivity since 2005!
