Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead.
A rocket scientist over in [info]techsupport seems to think that Americans invented the English language and that people in the UK and Australia don't speak English.

Good times.

Excellent! It's definitely wrong to complain about Zee != Zed and imply that people who aren't Americans are stupid. But when we bring up Southern accents it's totally cool to mock them for talking like their parents and teachers taught them. There's definitely a difference between them! I'm not sure what, but there is!

Add in some banana nut muffins and/or banana pudding and I'm so there. Also, bushwackers.

This banana pudding must have a pound of Nilla Wafers in it or it can't come to the southern party.

Wait, wait, banana pudding doesn't come with Nilla Wafers already in the pudding mix?

Wait, pudding with Nilla Wafers in it is a Southern thing? Gasp! My Massachusetts-bred family used to do it all the time, until foodie-ism got hold of us!

Grandma did spend part of WW2 in Tennessee, so maybe she learnt the recipe there.

Only if it's banana pudding, which must consist of layers of pudding made with condensed milk, banana slices, Nilla wafers, and either cool whip or egg white meringue in order to be proper Southern style. Paula Deen tries to say otherwise, which makes her a filthy liar.

...Wow I didn't even realize there was really a difference. I always just call it iced tea at home and order sweet tea at restaurants. Though I guess I should have realized the difference when I went up north and all their iced tea was unsweetened.

THE MORE YOU KNOW.

THEY DON'T HAVE SWEET TEA UP NORTH?

Oh my god i'm going to DIE when I move to Milwaukee (from NE Florida! It's practically Georgia!) next year for grad school.

I know, it's terrible. I mean, I'm a Chicagoan born-and-bred and I hate the iced tea in restaurants -- it's never sweetened, and when you add sugar or Splenda after the fact, it just sinks to the bottom no matter how much you stir it. And so you suffer with your unsweet tea until like the last super-sweet gulp. >:(

(But some grocery stores do carry it bottled, at least. And for what it's worth, I've heard McDonald's sweet tea is as good as the Southern real thing.)

Huh, interesting! I'm from Canada so I only know of iced tea. And I hate it. Because it's not sweet enough for me.

I need to take a trip down south methinks.

Or do what my grandmother does.

((Gallon jar (or jug, depending) + loads of sugar + steaming water) x seal and shake thoroughly) + teabags x left on the back porch in the for several hours = sunshine sweet tea.
