I love my dead, gay cat?
Not liking cats: now on par with oppressing gays.

...yeah, I got nothin'.

Also, wow at kabuki_callgirl's bizarre comment on the very specific form of Australian cat hatred, or whatever the hell it was she threw in there.

Paraphrased conversation time!

[info]kabuki_callgirl:I have found that with people who hate cats they are more then happy to injure cats and have no remorse over a dead cat.

[info]hellospaceship: ...just because people don't want cats in their house doesn't mean they want to kill them all.

[info]kabuki_callgirl: Did I imply this. No.

everyone_else_ever: Wtf are you on about, you kind of did.

A scary amount of people do, however, find tormenting, hurting, or even killing cats perfectly acceptable. (I sort of knew this intellectually, but I somehow had blocked out the idea that it could happen here, until I was volunteering at the SPCA one day and a woman came in looking to adopt and said "this one will definitely be entirely indoors, because someone poisoned our last one".)

Yeah, especially since she's talking about very JUSTIFIED cat-hatred. No cat-lover on this earth is going to love the Australian feral cats that have devastated the country and sometimes severely injured people.

See, I don't _hate_ the feral cats here. It's not their fault that stupid owners at one time didn't look after their cats. I do however think they need to be controlled to the point we can eliminate them in the wild. I think there's a difference between hating something and knowing that it's not good for the environment.

Thank you. I feel sorry for the Australian feral cat population. They didn't ask to be put there, they're just doing what they can to survive. If we must get rid of them, we need to do it as humanely as possible, not do half the things I've heard macho bastards at the pub talk about.

Besides, they're getting a LOT of help from people too in destroying the environment. (Don't start me on logging!)

Oh sure, you can apply that to any hated animal - they're just doing their jobs in the circle of life, and such - but sometimes it can get personal. For example, my dad hates feral cats because he lived on a farm as a kid and they were a nightmare. Everyone in north Queensland hates cane toads because they've had a pet or child poisoned by them. Y'know?
