I love my dead, gay cat?
Not liking cats: now on par with oppressing gays.

...yeah, I got nothin'.

I don't like cats. Which totally explains why a six month old kitten decided to follow me home one night and take over my life.

OP: You may hate cats, but they don't hate you. Please, won't someone think of the kittens?

I took my revenge, though. The kitten is now named Ruffles. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

My dad hates cats with a passion, yet any time I used to bring mine over to visit, the cat absolutely adored him. She would try and sit on him and ignore the rest of us. When he wouldn't let her, she would sit under his legs, then follow him when ever he left the room.

I used to tease dad a lot about that, and occasionally I'd threaten him by saying I'd bring my cat over. Lol.

It doesn't seem to matter what we name our cats, they always just end up being called puss.

Same with my cats and my grandma, who now won't stay over in part because of that. They like the folks that hate 'em.

My grandmother used to hate cats, pretty much for most of her life. Until a few years ago when her live-in son (who never really moved out, lol) decided to start feeding the strays. And then one of the strays had kittens in the basement, so they were allowed in the basement until the kittens and momma cat were adopted out.

And then another stray got into a fight with a raccoon... so he was allowed into the basement (where the son lives) until he got better, and now he's allowed inside 'for just a few minutes' a day... AND THEN the neighbors kicked out their elderly cat instead of getting her bad teeth treated OR putting her down. And her teeth were really bad so of course they had to be cleaned and some extracted, and after spending that much on a cat she might as well stay inside. So now they've got one and a half cats who are allowed inside the house. And one room is completely given over to 'Snowflake', who gets expensive treats and a special diet.

My mom, who had spent her childhood begging for a cat, laughed and laughed when this drama unfolded.

My dad used to hate cats, but when I asked for a cat he agreed. We wound up with two, which he wound up loving (one spends all her time in his office now, and he has a can of treats there just for her), and then we got another, and when one died we got another... which he helped us pick out.

Cats worm their way into your hearts, man.

In Egypt we have a saying that goes, "A cat only loves the one who strangles it."

That's because they exhibit all the right body language to be friendly with cats. Looking excessively at a cat's face, touching it, paying attention to it, it's all very rude in cat terms. It's basically getting all up in their face and being aggressive or dominant. But if you just sort of sit there and don't look at them, you're saying you're not going to hurt them, you're not stressed to have them there, you're open to being approached.

*takes off cat nerd hat*

This explains so much about my fiance's mother's cats! =D<3 I love our cat to death, but I am not nearly the animal person that my fiance's family is, to the point that they're actually convinced that I don't like cats, which I feel bad about, because our cat was my fiance's cat when he was 13 until he moved out, and I hate to think that they think I don't give him enough love.

Run-on sentence is awful.

Cats do that to my mom, too. So do dogs, actually. I think animals seize on those who are Definitely Not Animal People -- maybe they think they can convert them?

This. I love and treat my dog awesomely but whereas I am to him as important as any odd person who might share their sandwich with him, my mother is The Goddess because she either ignores or disciplines him most of the time. Bah, the canine ingrate.

Dogs also know when you are a total sucker, though - my friend's yellow lab latched onto me as her new best friend OMG the first time we met, attempted to sit in my lap (which was cute but very uncomfortable), and then sat by me all of dinner because she just knew I would eventually cave and give her my hamburger. (I didn't, go me. It was hard.)

My dad's an anti-cat person too, but ten years ago I convinced him that I'd be responsible and look after a cat. The nice lady at the Cats Protection league convinced us that since we'd be out most of the time (I was at school and he was teaching) that we needed to get two cats.

My Dad now has conversations with Sooty, and when Sweep was still alive he'd spend ages trying to convince her to sit next to him!

I seem to remember reading somewhere that animals treat eye contact as a potential danger. So those humans that don't like animals and hence don't look at them get pegged as "friendly".

Cesar Milan (the Dog Whisperer) says that dogs are attracted to Boss types. They feel more secure when someone orders them around or doesn't deign to notice them right away.

ZOMG, THE KITTEN IS NOW IN HEAT!!! HOLY FUCK WHAT DO I DO!! BESIDES MAKE SURE SHE STAYS THE HELL INSIDE I MEAN! I mean, my mom always got her cats fixed before this was a problem (although I'm told her first cat had a kitty abortion) so I have no real context here.

aaand I'm going away for the weekend. My pet sitter is a vet tech, thank god. So horny kitty gets to be by herself.
