Gee, this wank smells terrific
So, what do you think about "salon" shampoos that you buy from overstock stores?

They're evil and wrong. EVIL AND WRONG! DANGER WILL ROBINSON! THEY KILLED A MAN IN RENO JUST TO WATCH HIM DIE!

Can anyone tell me what are cone-free shampoos? I've never heard of them.

silicone-free, apparently.

also, apparently she meant sulfate-free. still don't know what that is, unless she means stuff like "sodium laurel sulfate"

Yep, that's the stuff. I personally find the SLS-type chemicals are a little rude to my hair, so I understand her interest in avoiding them. But wanking over it, not so much.

Yeah, they tend to be kind of drying, so I've started avoiding them. But they're not dangerous or anything.

Thanks! I checked and my shampoo has sodium laurel sulfate and dimethicone so I guess she wouldn't approve. Oh well.

I think they're talking about dimethycone. It's in most conditioners and hair care folks say it dries out your hair follicles something fierce.

Ah, thanks. Yeah, I use Garnier Fructis, which has dimethicone but I don't notice dry hair or anything so it can't be that bad.

To sum up the basic "theory": Sulfates are cleansing detergents found in most shampoos. Many people feel that sulfates dry their hair out. Silicones are put in products because they often lessen the harshness of the sulfates. So there's nothing wrong with silicones per se. It's just that some people choose not to use any products with sulfates in them, and sulfates are the only detergent strong enough to wash the silicones out. So if you keep using products with silicones in them without washing them out, they can build up on the hair and make it feel dry/gunky.

Silicone free. You know, like washing up liquid.

This is where the concept of "cone free" came from.
