Gee, this wank smells terrific
So, what do you think about "salon" shampoos that you buy from overstock stores?

They're evil and wrong. EVIL AND WRONG! DANGER WILL ROBINSON! THEY KILLED A MAN IN RENO JUST TO WATCH HIM DIE!

MSL: The salon lady in San Juan who did my hair for my mother's wedding.

MSL: You have beautiful hair!
Me: Thanks, I use (pricey but accessible brand).
MSL: OMG, You're KILLING your hair. That's made for WHITEPEOPLE'S hair and you aren't.
Me: Er...I'm multiracial?

Next thing you know, my mother's spent twenty bucks on a bottle of hair cream and a bottle of mousse, neither of which were big enough and can't be found anywhere else (and admittedly, did great things for my hair). But I got back to the mainland, and found damn near the same product for $2 at the Evil Empire (pronounced Wal-Mart).

*sigh*

Oh noez! I must be murdering my hair too, since I am outrageously white now that it is winter and I work at night and I often use products from the "ethnic hair care" aisle.

srsly, that olive oil stuff? AMAZING

I can't use 'white people' hair products anyway. My Gran was from Malta and I got a fair slap of her genetics, which meant great bone structure, awesome figure, gorgeous hair but dang, it gets oily quickly. And all the hair products in Australia are marketed to blonde women, or women that try to be blonde by frying their hair, so it's all DEEP MOISTURISING or full of some special fucking lipids or whatever.

I don't need that. I need something that'll clean my hair and leave it nice and shiny but won't weigh it down. Can I find that? No. I'm on rotation between Pantene Classic Clean, Garnier Fructus Oily Roots, Dry Ends and Herbal Essences Drama Clean. None of them do the job as well as Schwarzkopf but can I find a Schwarzkopf range for oily hair anywhere that doesn't cost fifty bucks a bottle? NOOOOOOOOOO.

I fry my hair getting it red (naturally really dark hair. Everyone thinks I'm Irish now, but when I had dark hair everyone thought I was Greek or Jewish or Italian or SOMETHING. We're part-Cherokee), but it still gets oily two weeks after dyeing. So I switch between some volumizing crap and Neutrogena T-Sal.

I didn't know Schwarzkopf made oily hair shampoo.

Have you tried Lush shampoos? I don't know for sure if they'd work, but I find their stuff mostly dries my hair out too much, so! Also, if you're interested in the liquid ones, they'll give you a tester so you can try it out first, which is my favorite thing about the whole process -- woot, don't have to find out if a product works for me by buying a whole bottle!

(I use Big now. It makes my hair all fluffy! But a little dry.)

I used one of their shampoo bars, but stopped when it made my hair so squeaky clean it actually...erm...squeaked and I had to put conditioner in it to be able to draw a comb or brush through it.

I think the bars are wonderful if you've naturally slightly oily and thick hair, but I have very fine hair and a very dry scalp so they're not for me. Finding a shampoo that does not cause the Itch Of DoomTM is always a challenge.

I found a wonderful one after years of trying and then I moved to the UK, where they don't have it at all, so the hunt has begun again. I recently dyed my hair red again, and I'm having quite a bit of luck with Australian's Colour Mate. The conditioner I am not too keen on because it makes my hair feel flat and heavy.

(Mind you, pretty much any conditioner will do that to my hair and I tend to only use it in winter, because I really don't think the whole 'exploded dandelion' is a good look for me, you know?)

Lush shampoos do really seem to be a matter of finding the perfect one for your hair type, if it exists at all. I tried three different kinds and had given up, but then I had to buy some shampoo while I was in Japan, and Japanese shampoo -- yeah, exploded dandilion. So I went off to Lush and tried oooneee moooore time. I don't use the bars, though, I use one of the liquid shampoos. I have superfine fluffy hair, and I use (as previously mentioned) Big. It makes it fluffy, but in a good way!

(That being said, I'm sure there are hair types out there that Lush does not cater for. Nothing covers everything.)

I'd rec Lush too. My sister bought me Antiphilitron- It's from their retro range, so I couldn't find in on their au site.

My hair was such a mess after I had been quite ill for three months, I was planning on just chopping it off, but the shampoo made it all shiny again!

My hair is very oily (even though it's 'white people' Irish hair), I have to wash it everyday ideally.

Big is great as well, but I love Juicy is better if your hair is thick (my sister didn't like big because of that).

But the biggest problem is usually the conditioner.
I'd rec this conditioner from lush.

Home remedies include seawater, lemon water (but not too strong!), vinegar water (doesn't smell too great) and in emergencies, talc (but you lose the shine)!

On a side note, is the exchange rate really that different, or do you pay more for Lush in Australia?

Schwarzkopf is an expensive brand in Australia? Huh. Its not in the UK. Weird.

Do you ever see Original Source stuff? I have the mint and tea tree shampoo and conditioner, and apart from the fact that it makes the baby try to eat my hair, its pretty awesome with the not weighting hair thing. Mind you, the fact that I have weird-ass hair means it only deals with the oil and not the mad static. *sigh* I once thought that problem would go away when I left school and didn't have to wear acrylic jumpers anymore.

Not generally. Only the 'salon' style stuff they sell in certain hair cair stores is. And that's the only place I could find stuff specifically for oily hair.

I have mad static problems as well. *imagines baby eating your hair and melts*

So odd. Is my 'oh god I had that when I was wee!' hair stuff.

Its when it develops a life of its own and sticks to the walls that you really just give up, isn't it?

It's only cute when it's not your hair. She is an odd child, I think it relates to her love of brushing her teeth.

Yeah mum used to wash my hair when I was a kid with the stuff and my hair was shockingly beautiful. Thick and brown and shiny. It might have been because I was a child, though.

I haven't had it stick to walls yet, but I've had it clump together in the middle unattractively and then all around the edges of the hair, puff out as if I had my hand on one of those static machines. Fucking annoying.

I suppose this is true. Be glad it's not a cat. My cat loves hair too, and she'll leap on my sister, sing her claws into her buttocks and bite at her ridiculously long pony-tail that goes to her bottom. It's hilarious to watch but I don't doubt it would be totally annoying.

Except that my sister fucking *loves* my cat to tears. She won't admit it, but she does. It's the cutest thing ever. And Rogue *adores* her Auntie Helen.

It doesn't leap madly to the walls any more but that's only because it isn't waist length anymore. On the other hand, the comedy effect with a bob + thundery weather is good. Hats. Hats are good.

Aaaaaa. No. At least the wee one has no claws (also I can hand her back)! Our dog used to pull the elastic out of your hair if you ignored him though. Worried the neighbour, she thought he was chewing on my head.

!!!

Schwarzkopf is a cheapass shampoo brand, oily hair or no. I can't believe selling it in the States amps the price so much. (Or rather, sadly I can, after I heard about the price of Kinder eggs in the States.)

Wah, I feel you! I have tried nearly everything for my oily hair and I think I am near to resigning to the fact that I am just stuck with it. (sniffle).

What do you find works BEST, at any rate? I tried the Garnier Fructus at one point, and also the Herbal Essences for oily hair, but I don't think they made much of a difference.

I started using the Garnier leave-in conditioners, which have allowed me to actually brush it. Supposedly, that's the other bad thing I do. I'm supposed to comb, pick or use my fingers on waist-length hair that snarls at a sneeze. Buggrit, I say, give me a stout brush, a quart of olive oil and a gross of hairpins.

Strangely, using the Classic Clean shampoo from Pantene and the Drama Clean conditioner. I use the conditioner thusly: Rub most of it into the ends of the hair, and when there's only a sort of thin layer of the conditioner on your hands, run it quickly over the top of your head, just enough to make it silky after being cleaned. :)
