	Not a piercing but it falls under the body mod category. I used to know this guy who had to miss work for almost a week because of injury of a prince's wand going wrong. I don't know if he sounded himself or had it done professionally but he was in a world of hurt before he went to get it checked out. (Reply to this)(Parent)

	I think keri was saying (as I also feel) is that it isn't so much the tongue piercing itself that's squicky, as the piercing it yourself seems like a terrible, terrible idea. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Oh, I've reopened my ear holes multiple times with little issue but gave up because I think I ended up making scar tissue much worse than it already was. I tried piercing my nostril in '84, '85ish and failed because the needle just wouldn't go on and I wasn't going to try pounding it in or something. Aaaand finding a place that'd do that at that time, well, the only one I found was so dirty that I wouldn't bring my car there, let alone have somebody jab my nose.

	I was mostly referring to piercing a tongue oneself, as opposed to something with skin on it. There just seems so much more to have go wrong (that sentence is so ugly) on one's tongue. (Reply to this)(Parent)

As someone with 3 genital piercings and my most recent ex with... um, 14, I found genital piercings to be the most hassel free of any of the piercings I've had. The blood flow to the area is so rich that they heal super fast. They estimate two weeks to be on the safe side, but all three of mine were fine in under a week. I love the look of them, feel of them and everything about them. Also the pain of them isn't really that bad. I mean, yes the pain is very intense, but it's over with so quickly that it almost doesn't count. Nothing like getting a tattoo, for example.
Finally, because they're on a part of the body that's well concealed and protected, they're less likely to get caught on things and pull and be exposed to nasty stuff and so on and so forth. And no, there's really no issues during sex, or even when I get my brazilians.

Sorry if that's TMI, but I thought if there was the chance to reduce your weirded-outness I might as well. Or maybe increase it. Oh well. :)

By contrast, my belly button piercing was a never ending series of irritatins, infections and hassels. I now have an utterly useless hole there because my body began pushing the piercing out even though the piercing had healed (ie: grew a layer of skin around the inside of the piercing) until the bridging piece of skin was too thin to support jewellery (and look good).

That doesn't weird me out, it's "I don't get it". Partly because I don't like the look of genital piercings but the biggest thing is the "OWWWW" factor. That's interesting that people have found tattoos to be very painful. I barely had any pain with them (professional or me being lame as at twelve and fifteen with turkey stitching needles and India ink). I guess it depends on the person and where they get them. Getting my ears pierced was extreme painful for me but other folks barely flinch.

See, I don't get the pain thing. I mean, yeah it hurts like fire, but it's literally a split second, so it just doesn't seem that big a deal to me.

It depends on the tattoo - people I've known who've been getting inked for five hours are beginning to squirm and weep, particularly those getting them on sensitive places, like the pubis. It helps if you're a masochist - my ex was, and loved the pain of any body mods.

Because my personal style is classic vintage, I dislike having visible tattoos and piercings. Therefore the genitals made sense to me. Plus they're just pretty! XD

Rooks are terribly high-maintenance piercings, too. Mine still gets bitchy even though it's six months old, since it's constantly being irritated. (I sleep on my side, so the whole ear gets a bit warm when squashed against the pillow, plus I have long hair, and let's not talk about when I accidentally yank the ring around when cleaning my ears. :P ) I don't regret having it done, but I can't help but feel that a scaffold/industrial would have been so much easier to deal with. Damn my ears for being the wrong shape for scaffolds.
