Mawwiage. Mawwiage is whot bwings us the wank today.
Wank, that sewf-wighteous event, that spwurt wiffin a dweam...

Yeah. Anyway. 'nough of that.

Apparently some students at the University of Northern Texas (I think. They're all in Denton, Texas and one has in her user info that she goes to a UNT) have decided to protest the DoMA by staging a fake wedding. One's straight, the other's bisexual, but neither have any romantic interest in each other. This doesn't come out until the first comment. The OP makes a bunch of veiled, slightly pretentious references to it. One of the brides explains their reasoning in the previously linked comment. [info]dgtlghost thinks it's a pretty stupid idea. But he doesn't get it, as [info]alittlenothing is quick to point out. Things go down hill from there as they start their own catfight/mini-wank.

Meanwhile...

-- we get a thread of slightly more intellectual wank from [info]tyches_coin and [info]pikacharma.

--Blushing bride [info]prettymouth gets offended that the OP has a problem with their wedding, because her dad marched with MLK in Selma, and OMG he has lots of scars!

--the OP makes a condescending reply that goes on and on. Honestly, I didn't bother to read any of it, past the first paragraph. But somehow it morphs into an argument about old history and whether or not he knows what the word "rape" means.

I almost wish that I lived in Texas, so I could have pointed and laughed at them in person.

bwah! Oh man, I'm staying in a North Texas dorm right now. I try to avoid wank in real life, though.

Gotta love the original poster, Mr. "Honey, I love you! You're an idiot. Kisses!".

You are a whining, no talent, pointless little girl who thinks that because what she is doing isn't hurting anyone, it must be ok.

Okay ignoring the pointless insult is bad that I want to pop over there and go 'Ding, ding, ding! Got it in one sug. Good for you!'

My view I don't care what others do in their personal life as long as they're not hurting or being hurt by others.

We staged a protest like that months ago. (Two lesbian couples, one gay, one "straight" but mixed race) Only, like, we'd sent out notes saying it was a symbolic political protest a couple hours in advance (I'm in fairly conservative territory, and no one wants to die and junk) and we had, like, anti-DoMA petitions we were trying to get people to sign. The "vows" were basically a more eloquent version of "We affirm the right for all couples to get married no matter their race or sexual orientation." I thought it was rather cool.

I love how anyone who supports equal rights for the GLBT community is, according to dgtlghost, automatically a "bleeding heart liberal" with no understanding of the real world. If you were a true-blooded Republican, you should be rooting for the GLBT community.. Marriage penalty people! Allowing homosexual civil unions means getting extra tax revenue out of a previously-untouched source. More money = more funding for Iraqi "liberation." (Which is a can of worms that I, personally, do not feel like interacting with at this time except to read the label.)

I go to UNT, and I posted this event on the ClayPride lj, which led me to here.

I am a gay man, and I find this event appaling, simply because the two people did not truly love each other, but only did this to prove that they think the DoMA is wrong. That's not good enough for me. I know all the participants in both the event, and the LJ drama, including the one who made the point of "You are a whining, no talent, pointless little girl who thinks that because what she is doing isn't hurting anyone, it must be ok."

And I'd like to say that the man who posted this comment is not only a dear friend, but also one of the smartest guys I know, so I would appreciate people not knocking him.

As for the others, well...the way they handled not only the event, but the drama ensued afterwards, was just plain stupid.

It was a stupid idea carried out in an unintelligent manner. I have no problem with two loving gay or lesbian people who want to commit their lives to each other, but this is not the way to do it. Thank you. I've said my peace.

Smart, smart. Now you've done gone and tripped the silent wank alarm.

Your friend's mom wears cheap, off-brand combat boots.
