People can't be an assault victims until they've been criticized
The CBC reports a story about a 66-year-old missionary, Eloise Bergen, and her husband who was assaulted in Kenya earlier this year, and recently testified against her assaulters. People feel the need to state their opinions in the comments:

donnico: maybe the Indigenous people of Africa don't want to be 'civilized and christianized'.

RogerKolbe: [replying to donnico] Then don't complain when the Janjaweed dismembers live victims, when baby girls are raped to cure aids, or slavery runs rampant.

Your type is usually at the front of the line when atrocities happen, crying 'we should do something!"

clearlight makes several snarky comments, all along the lines of "Religious fools rush in where rational beings fear to tread. ;-)" and all with a passive aggressive wink emoticon at the end.

AlanHarrison: There should be a special tax put on all travel to dangerous destinations to fund the health care and rehabilitation that people require when they return....

I bet you that if these people had just stayed in Canada, they wouldn't have been beaten and raped. But they made a conscious decision to go somewhere dangerous. I also made a conscious decision to smoke my cigars and I have to pay a SHEEEEEEEEE-ATSU load of tax to do so. Fair's fair!

There are no people who are beaten or raped in Canada. No way.

skippi: I have read that people who can genuinely forgive someone who has wronged them heal completely and more quickly than those who cannot. Either the Bergens are the living proof of that or he and/or she are ticking time bombs. I sincerely hope it is the former.

Victims must forgive their attackers or else they aren't good Christians, and may one day kill other people!

This story has been widely reported by Canadian media, so there are even more choice comments, including an opinion piece and replies on the Globe and Mail site. There are also articles from when the assault occurred, including a longer comment thread at the original CBC article.

ETA: Sorry, was a mispost (the comments I originally found were wanky rather than plain depressing, and I forgot to change the field). The recipes sound delicious, though.

Wait, a CUP of baking powder? That's... a lot of baking powder! (Actually that's probably half a can of the stuff.) Is it possible he means 1 tablespoon?

Penance in advance, in case you're totally right:
Basic biscuits:

2 C flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2.5 teaspoon baking powder
6 tablespoons (3/4 of a stick) butter
3/4 c milk

Preheat oven to 425. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Use a paring knife to cut the butter into the dry mix (smaller pieces is better; people fap about texture issues, but as long as you don't melt it to total liquid you're fine) and stir thoroughly. Add milk and mix till the dough coheres. You're supposed to roll the dough and cut shapes, but I've happily done tablespoon-sized balls rolled between my hands and placed on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake about 12 minutes or till golden brown. Try not to eat all at once, as that IS 3/4 of a stick of butter! Yield: about a dozen.

Whoa! I didn't even notice that; I just copied and pasted from my coworker's e-mail. Definitely seems wrong. I'll have to ask him what that should be, because it simply can't be a cup.

Now my coworker has sent me the real recipe, the one he actually used, instead of (as I now know he did yesterday) just finding a recipe online for the same type of thing and sending it to me. So I deleted the recipe above that wasn't even the one I tasted and thought was so good. Here's what I got from him this morning:

A.P. Bread

4 cups flour
1/4 tsp salt
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening (I used canola oil and add a tad more than half cup)
2 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp (or "scant teaspoon" as the original recipe said, baking soda

Throw all of above ingredients together in a bowl.
Beat 1 egg slightly in measuring cup and then add milk to make 1 cup
and add to the above mixture.
Knead it all together by hand. It ends up a heavy sticky dough.
Divide in two and bake in two, 8 inch pie pans at 350 for about 40 minutes.
NOTE - in my oven, it only took about 30 minutes at that temp.
