Current mood:*sporfle!*

Whole new levels of batshit...
Not wank in the traditional sense, but c'mon. It's PETA. They're wanky all by themselves, often without even trying. Their newest not-so-new campaign? Save the Sea Kittens!

That's right. Sea kittens.

What, you ask, is a sea kitten? Just look at your local fish market, and you can find all sorts of cruelly butchered sea kittens! Trout kittens and sole kittens and cod kittens and haddock kittens.

Yup. This batshit is to make us feel like horrible, horrible people for killing fish by calling them kittens, because what sort of monster would kill and eat a kitten?!

The site really speaks for itself, complete with a form letter to send to your congressperson, a "dress up your kitten" game, and that old PETA standby, the rather graphic, overblown "children's story" that turns animals into neuroscientists (I'm not kidding) and humans into murderers.

Personally, I enjoy my sea kittens battered and fried and served with British chips. Mmm, sea kittens and chips...

Edit: My bad, it's not new to some people.

It's insane batty! I lost count of how many sports teams and schools with piscene creature mascots were petitioned by PETArds to change their name to 'sea kitten".

Okay, I'm feeling really insane because I was thinking they came out with sea kittens months and months ago... but everyone is saying it's new. I'm so confused. I remember people playing that sea kitten game months ago. Seriously, it's making me feel nutty.

Sharing thread: What's everyone's favorite sea kitten dish?

Mine's sea kittens and rice. I usually have it teriyaki-style or with butter and maple pepper.

The best part about fish sea kittens and chips is definitely the malt vinegar.

Once upon a time, PETA had a purpose. Today, it's the laughingstock of the advocacy organizations.

However, I swear never to eat Sea Kitten because that sounds revolting.

My friends, upon hearing this, decided they had an imaginary sea kitten named Sid Fishious. Also, we watched Planet Earth and cooed over the sea kittens. Clearly, the campaign works! I mean, sea kittens are still delicious, but they're at least cuter now...

The one thing that ever really put me off fish for a while was at the end of Finding Nemo. And as usual for Pixar, I don't think they were trying to be preachy, it was just part of the climax. But all those fish in the net, screaming... *shudder*

Maybe the moral is that we only care about things that can talk. Sometimes.

I have this theory that PETA and Fred Phelps are competing to see who can be the biggest attention whore/troll in the country.

I'm not sure who is winning. I think Phelps, because his crazy rants are closer to the rants of people who might actually matter.
