Alton Brown does what?!?!?
[info]angieobsessed would like us all to know that microwaving butter in order to melt it is a crime against humanity.

This has been a public service announcement.

Oh, if only someone would suggest substituting shortening or margarine! (Not that I would condone either, but it would surely triple the wank.)

This wank reminded me that I had a package of oatmeal chocolate chip cookie mix that I hadn't made yet. The situation has been remedied (with microwave-softened butter OMG) and the fresh-baked cookies are now cooling. :D

Also, I vote that "Internet Chef" should be the new "Internet Lawyer."

I just made two recipes with butter melted in the microwave earlier today. TWO CUPS WORTH. *is apparently a failure*

(The cookies came out great. I haven't tried the brownies yet. I forgot the vanilla extract, but that shouldn't exacerbate my cooking failure, right?)

You know, I have to actually agree with the "don't MELTZ the butter! OH NOEZ" argument. Last time I tried that it nearly exploded my microwave.

If you're making cookies, it's best to let it sit and soften. Microwaving it does change how it reacts with the dough. I'm not a nazi about it or anything. I totally melt it for everything else.

When I lived in Western New York with an extremely cold kitchen without a microwave, I used to soften butter by putting it (in its wrapper, in a big ceramic bowl) over the heating vent on the floor.

I bet that's wrong, too. D:

Nun, erhitzen oder auch erwärmen in der Mikrowelle führt zum Zerbrechen dieser Fettsäureketten und zerstört die Vitamine sowie sie auch Wasser entzieht.

Eh. I don't microwave butter because we have a cheap-o microwave with minimal settings and the butter either stays cold or melts into a puddle, so I'm forced to soften it by leaving it on the counter. I'd love to have a microwave that could do it properly.

I don't understand how someone could microwave butter.

Put butter into a bowl.

Put it in the microwave.

Press buttons. Probably you just need to hit cook and the time and then start, or just the time and then start. If you jab randomly I'm sure you'll eventually get it, or you could hire monkeys to do it for you.

Wait.

TA-DAH.
