I actually have been known to let it sit on a saucer near the burner while I'm making something else.

However, the last time I used the oven I totally forgot that there was a stick of butter sitting on the stove. Result: giant buttery mess. That's rather a nice example of What Not To Do.

We should form a Butter Heathens Society. What would she think of people who use *gaspu* MARGARINE?

Shit, that's not funny enough. Um. ~~I'll bet people who use margarine rape babies. TRUFAX.~~ Fuck, I wrote that out and then it reminded me of the butter-as-lube scene in Last Tango in Paris and then I squicked myself!

The lesson here: Use butter. It's good enough for your ass, it's good enough for eating, I guess.
