Bare Feet -- Srs Bsnss
Over on Customers Suck, a poster complains about a shoeless customer coming into the restaurant where they work. In the comments ladygzb doesn't understand what the problem is.

After all, not that long ago, people of no means went barefoot as a matter of course, so why shouldn't she have the right to enter a public place with no shoes. Social conventions are meaningless. Going barefoot flaunts convention the way gay and interracial marriage does!

If your feet have a fungus it's the fault of your shoes! I went barefoot all through college and never caught anything like a fungal infection! In short, shoes are just disgusting and they make my feet hurt anyway.

And people keep on arguing with her.

I go barefoot all the time at home (sometimes going a whole summer without shoes and socks), but I would never consider going into a restaurant or retail establishment with my bare feet. That's just gross.

We had a lady come into my parents restaurant and take off her shoes and I went up to her and told her flat out to put them back on because we can't guarantee that there isn't any broken glass on the carpet.

Jesus, yes. My feet overheat very easily, so at home I rarely put socks on. In the summer when I was a kid I could get away with running around outside on the grass. Nowadays though, we have lots of crap all over the ground outside, so shoes it is.

(I get she doesn't like shoes, really. Couldn't she even wear flip-flops?)

Oh she had sandals on. That's what she took off. I'm like WTF.

The ONLY thing that would make that acceptable is maybe the shoes were really uncomfortable or something. I would forgive that (I had a pair of shoes that rubbed my skin raw in one particular place. Ouch). But, you know. Don't do walking around in them! Restaurants have heavy plates that are hot and cutlery and glasses and it can lead to a broken toe. :(

And... she compared not wearing shoes to the struggle of interracial marriages being accepted in society today? Really?

Is this some new version of Godwin's that I haven't heard of yet?? My head hurts too damn much (from RL stuff, akshully) to locate links, but I'm pretty sure I've heard this argument before...

My mom took too many parasitology classes when she was going for her masters, and of course she just had to share. Now I can't even go shoeless in my own yard without getting the heebie-jeebies. D:

I don't go shoeless in my yard... well my parents yard because I don't have a yard at the moment... because we always had a dog. And the landmines just weren't safe.

Plus... the first time you ever step on a banana slug on the West Coast... you never go barefoot outside again.

I just go barefoot indoors. But not in a restaurant. o.o

OMG I can STILL feel it. And it was like 15 years ago.

*shudders*

That sensation never goes away.

I refuse to even sit on the lawn at my cousins' house because of the slugs - Set my hand down on one once and now avoid grassy areas there like the plague.
