Bare Feet -- Srs Bsnss
Over on Customers Suck, a poster complains about a shoeless customer coming into the restaurant where they work. In the comments ladygzb doesn't understand what the problem is.

After all, not that long ago, people of no means went barefoot as a matter of course, so why shouldn't she have the right to enter a public place with no shoes. Social conventions are meaningless. Going barefoot flaunts convention the way gay and interracial marriage does!

If your feet have a fungus it's the fault of your shoes! I went barefoot all through college and never caught anything like a fungal infection! In short, shoes are just disgusting and they make my feet hurt anyway.

And people keep on arguing with her.

There are none that fit me and they all hurt.

Because none of the shoe makers don't make specialty shoes for those who can't find shoes at the stores that properly fit them.

I love walking around barefoot too. But that's only when I'm at home where I'm more likely to know what's on the floor.

Devil's advocate: being a very small-footed person, shoe shopping is either expensive or deeply unsatisfying.

That said, if she ain't a five or lower, she can kiss my... feet.

I wear US11-12 womens. : ( Shoe shopping is extremely depressing.

That said, most of my shoes are heels, so I like to go barefoot when I'm in the music building on campus, since I practically live there and no one cares. But it's the only place outside of my house/my friends' places that I won't wear my shoes.

Haha, I've learned which places carry shoes in my size (also, which places are in my price range - I actually love shoes, but I'm a poor college student, so). It's just discouraging to only find things like clogs in my size most places when, hi, I need (or want, but usually need) dressier shoes. Jerks.

I wear US11-12 womens. : ( Shoe shopping is extremely depressing.

I have:

* Size 9,
* Width AA, and
* Cannot wear heels because of back problems.

omg, sympathy!

it's like "hello, salesclerk, I need shoes without heels but that aren't totally worthless ballet flats. no, really, no, I don't want the old lady nurse shoes. please, i'm 25, i just want some cute shoes. oh god, no, really, i meant it about the old lady nurse shoes."


(i also can't wear heels, and my toes are really short, so I can't wear pointy-toes, either.)

Tell me about it. Shoe shopping if you have either small/short feet or big/long feet can be a real pain in the butt. I am a woman's size 12 and buying dressy shoes/heels is never fun. As I don't wear heels that often most of my shoes are in fact men's size 10 1/2... (the only real downside to that is the lack of chose in colors...)

I'm not super tiny (7, or 7 1/2 in heels), but I have DUCK FEET and high arches. Narrow heel with really wide toes = a pain in the ass. I couldn't wear the average "prom shoe" when I went to prom, because they are NOT designed for people with high arches. Forget wearing slides.

I feel for you, though. My aunt was a size 5, and she got my dress-shoe hand-me-downs when I was a kid. (I was a size 2 in kids)

I know the problem. It was worse when I was a child, but year of having to wear shoes that are too narrow somehow forced them to grow in ways that I am sure are not healthy. And my feet hurt for at least two weeks whenever I get new shoes because they never ever fit.

I did wear average prom footwear as well - I can't recommend it. One of my feet ended up bleeding.

Narrow heel with really wide toes = a pain in the ass.

Those are my son's feet. Plus, he has really weak/loose ankles. Meaning he needs things with ankle support.

... Which, apparently, they don't make in small kids' sizes. (My son's only 8, and is undersized, he wears like a 12 in toddler sizes) Shoe shopping for him is painful. His twin sister always goes to her aunt's house for the day, because she doesn't want to go to fifty different stores looking for shoes.

I'm a US children's 2/3, and there's a 1 1/2-inch lift in the size 2 foot.

Shoe-shopping used to be a pain. Now I just order them from my doctor, and put up with having the most expensive (and ugliest) shoes out of anyone I know.

I'll chime in with my woes: I work at a job that requires closed toe shoes, for GOOD REASON. I work with chemicals that *explode* daily, as well as acids that would be all too happy to burn through your hands or feet if they got a chance.

I'm a perfectly normal women's shoe size, but come summer, I cannot find a cheap closed toe shoe that isn't a three inch stiletto to save my life. Apparently during summer EVERY WOMAN IN THE WORLD wears thong sandals and flip-flops. There are no women who work at jobs that don't let them wear skimpy sandals. Nope, none. So say the shoe manufacturers.

I've learned to do a year's worth of shoe shopping when the winter shoes come out.

When I worked at a job like that, they gave me my very own pair of (deeply unstylish) steel toed boots. I still have them, just in case I ever need to kick someone in the face really hard.

Yeah, I'm lucky in that I totally never grew out of my tomboy phase, and am rather cheerful about the fact that I have to wear 9/10 men's shoes. I've only felt the urge to wear more feminine shoes twice in my life - my first school dance, and prom. Otherwise? Bring on the monochromatic sneakers and boots, yeah!

I'm 7-71/2 wide (don't know what size wide, I'd rather not find out) and pretty much only grandma shoes fit me. Often times if I want something cute I have to go up to a size 8 or 8 1/2 which led to much tripping when I had a pair of super cute heeled sandles (which I totally wore out because I loved them so much I wore them all the time, even in winter). I can get around it by buying mens on occasion (I think I'm a size 5 mens, not sure), but it sucks. It sucks ass.

I'm not so tempted as to go to the neighborhood shoemaker, though. Maybe one day when I finally break down and desperately want a fantastic set of heels that fucking fit me. ahahahahahahaha

Aw, really? I have a TON of cute shoes and I'm a 7 or 7.5 wide... but it's taken years and I baby my shoes to keep them! I really like Liz Claiborne Flex shoes and boots because they keep my feet looking cute.

But I'm probably blind to how much time I spend looking for shoes that fit at this point!

I wear my shoes out unbelievably fast, and hate shoe shopping for longer then about a half an hour every year.

My mom, until she had her feet surgically broken and reset, had it even worse. Bunions like you wouldn't believe. Fortunately I'm just wide, I don't have bunions.

I'm an 8 1/2 EE--the only women's shoes they make that fit me are for drag queens. OTOH, men's wide shoes (and right now, for mysterious reasons, all the normal men's shoes at Sears) fit me just fine. Yay for being butch. I couldn't imagine trying to be femme with wide feet. Good luck finding cute shoes--maybe drag shops can help?

Since everyone else is doing Thoughts on Feets vs Shoes, here are mine:

US Womens 9 1/2 WW in most brands/styles; professional measuring people keep trying to put me into a full size smaller but my feet are basically rectangular, and I get sores on my smallest three toes if I wear that size. Spread metatarsl arch, bad ankles, bad knees, one bad hip: need shock absorbing construction and anything flatter than a 1 1/2" heel gives me shin splints. Oh, and I'm diabetic. And really clumsy, so unit-bottom soles and anything with rounded edges or a flanged heel will cause me to fall down steps or catch the edge of a curb and smack into the side of the car when I try to open the door.

I basically shop any time I get within visual range of a shoe display. My favorite shoes are a pair of 8 eyelet logger's boots, men's size 8 WW. I have a passionate hate on for shoe clerks who think I just haven't found the proper dead-flat unit soled flanged-heeled sports shoe. I love Nordie's Rack, although it tends to be like searching for agates on the beach: more a matter of luck than skill or intent.

If I were seriously rich, I'd have everything hand-made.
