Madame Defarge probably isn't welcome there EITHER
Ravelry: it's like Facebook! It's for knitters and crocheters! It hit the New York Observer! It spawns four pages of grudgewank! It's like a concentration camp, in a way!

I am a Christina Conservative who has been driven out of my "home" on ravelry by hate mongers.

...a what?

It took me a while! I think they mean a Christian Conservative.

...although now I am thinking of Christina Conservative, the Sanrio-esque mascot of the Republican Party!

Christina Conservative killed Larry Liberal in the conservatory with the candlestick.

Actually, that's a speed-typing typo.

Yes, I have schadenfreude, but not because they're conservatives. Because they're idiots. If management of a site tells you as a moderator that you need to shape up and follow the rules OR ELSE, and you don't shape up and follow the rules, why would you think your politics have a damn thing to do with the consequences?

Why do I know waaaay too many 'Christiana Conservatives' who think that obviously anti-Christian bias was responsible for everything bad thats ever happened to them, even if they were flagrantly ignoring rules and stirring up trouble?

Like the nutter who assumed that Wal-mart had arrested him because he luvs Jebus, not because he was eating food off the shelves and not paying for it.

Ain't no drama like fiber art drama! There's a fine reason I keep far, far away from all knitting groups be they meatspace or interwebs. I'll only get close enough to enjoy the inevitable drama, like the MCY debacle; that was like the yarn version of Msscribe.

My husband has a Jared Flood pattern he's about to knit, funny enough.

Man, Jared usually looks a lot hotter in photos.

But... it's not really like Facebook at all. I'm not trying to be ZOMG ELITIST I LOVE RAVELRY, but it really has nothing in common with Facebook except that they are both on the internet and some people use them.

Reading through the dramz, it seems like that group was batshit and uncooperative and totally asking for it. Just sayin'.

LOL, TBH, the stuff people are reporting that they were saying doesn't look too different than the stuff people on the other side of the aisle were saying in 2004. Not that that excuses it, in any way, shape or form. I just find it amusing that people are *shocked* because political discourse has *never* been this vitriolic before.

I would encourage them to go to the library and look up vintage political cartoons.

Also, Jebus, people. I belong to a third party. Practically NOBODY ever agrees with my political philosophy in any of the places I hang out online. And yet, amazingly, I still manage to follow the rules, and *gasp* actually manage to read stuff that I don't agree with WITHOUT commenting.

In conclusion: LOL POLITICS.

The part I like best is that wonderful moment when one of the commenters says, "Oh wait, we are on a news site totally unrelated to Ravelry, and we have brought our wank to it. This is possibly a stupid and embarrassing idea."

...And then the wank continues.

Also that great comment, "Yeah, you're from Saskatoon. Shut up."

Anonymous (not verified) says:
Ravelry used to be a great place.

Unfortunately, Ravelry is run by a harridan, a eunuch, and a shadowy figure, all of whom are so steeped in bigotry and closed-mindedness, none but the 'cult of popular opinion' is tolerated.

Ravelry will never see a favorable endorsement, nor another dime of my money. Ever.

The (supportive) comment about how Ravelry is the internet for fiber-people isn't far off the mark. Swear to *god*, a lot of these people seem never to have communicated on-line (let alone realized that there might be different people in the big bad world out there). Their wanks are like perfect miniatures of persistent themes -- Nazis! Lurkers support them in email! Swearing is unladylike!

...I had to get a Firefox extension to block me from reading the forums. My mental health and blood pressure are *much* better now.

Tragically, most of The Bunker's best wank was deleted by the mods, who tended to hyper-delete. I really wish I could've seen the woman who was shocked, shocked to be told that suggesting bringing nooses to the Inauguration could be interpreted as a racist and inflammatory statement.

And then they blamed Casey for saying that because she was from Mississippi, she should've known better! Priceless.
