Madame Defarge probably isn't welcome there EITHER
Ravelry: it's like Facebook! It's for knitters and crocheters! It hit the New York Observer! It spawns four pages of grudgewank! It's like a concentration camp, in a way!

Kind of a shame, actually. I kind of miss acrylic vs. wool grudgewank, and can only imagine that knitting style wank is epic.

My new favourite is 'WHAT?? YOU MEAN YOU DON'T LIKE NORO? ARGHFRHASHOHSDSKDHSA!!!1' All I have to do is pick it up and I start to break out in a rash, and that stuff is everywhere.

Ooh, and my other favourite is men knitting! My husband knits (more than I do, really), and some women act like men who knit are out to poach their Sacryd Wommynz Ayrts. Except for the ones who run our yarn store; they know he's a sucker for the latest sock yarns!

The thing about Noro is that we're convinced that there is a man in Japan who makes sure that each marvelous, fabulous colourway has a colour in it that you will hate. That you didn't see when you bought the skeins.

For my friend, it means all her Noro has surprise!Pink.

That's pretty awesome and... probably pretty true. And you can always tell that the surprise!color is the one they tied in with all the knots!

I've heard that about Noro, which add to my feeling that my allergy is a boon!

When I finished up my Noro shawl, the fashion police aka my teenage daughter opined that it was really nice, but why did I knit it in such ugly colours?

Just what you want to hear after all that work, of course! I secretly like the occasional touch of lurid pinks or acid greens, but I know better to randomly throw them into the dyepot. There was a sunset last night that had just a hint of lurid pink against the buttercup yellow, bottle green and clear cornflower blue of the sky and now I'm itching to dye some yarn like that.

My maternal grandfather knit all the socks for his family of twelve children; I knew a lot of old logger-types who were fiendish sock-knitters.

Sailors and soldiers have often been keen knitters, from what I've heard. My husband has such a hard time finding decent patterns for mens' items designed for men who knit these days that he's considering writing a few of his own!
