[info]marveen posts in bad_service about a crappy hairstylist.

[info]amazonvera lets everyone know that if you only pay $12 for a haircut, you deserve what you get and you shouldn't bitch about it.

Short but sweet worth every penny.

I want to know where I can pay $12 for a haircut. I'm trying to grow mine out so all I need is the occasional trim for split ends, so I don't need an expensive place.

Got a beauty school in your town? Try there.

I wish. The closest one is probably in NYC. Honestly, my local SuperCuts isn't that much more than $12, I think, but the tip drives it up because I don't want to be cheap. I can't imagine the stylists there are rolling in bank.

Heh. I wouldn't think it's LOVE-worthy so much as "not being a dick," but I guess not being a dick isn't as common as it should be.

I find your icon oddly appropriate (you've seen the clip where he claims to cut his hair using his bankai, right?)

Do you have a standard amount? I always have a hard time figuring out if I'm giving enough in tips (usually it's about three dollars, because that's what I've seen my parents give, but I don't know if that's good enough).

When I go to HairCuttery, I tip 50% if I have my favorite stylist, because she's fantastic. Only 40% if I have someone else. Usually, I end up paying $30 for a beautifying trip, which includes haircut and waxing. I figure that's a good tip for an hour's work, since I think those kinds of salon pool the non-tip money at the end of the day.

(And lemme tell you, the one time last fall I had the stylist breathe into my face while waxing me, and then didn't seem to know how to do a plain bob cut? she only got a 25% tip. it was so traumatising, I haven't gone back for my regular trim yet, and I've learned to use tweezers on my lip.)

That seems like a good estimate, thanks!

If you're feeling brave, scrape it all up on top of your head into a pony tail, pull the pony tail out straight in front of you and trim off the bottom half inch with sharp scissors. It'll come out the right length all over. I've been doing this with my hair for years.

Oh lord, I am SO not brave. Plus it's got a few layers, though not too many. Thanks for the tip though! I'll keep it in mind in case I get braver in the future.

My mum maintains it's how people used to layer hair in the sixties. But you do need nerves of steel ;o)

Hey, thanks!

[has almost-butt-length-hair that is due for its three-month trim, but is too broke to afford it]

There's a place a few blocks from me that does trims for $8. I suspect the price is because a) the salon is locally-owned and b) it's staffed by students from the local beauty school. Maybe you might want to look around your neighborhood for local businesses.

(Price would also probably depend on where you live, I imagine. I've had to spend more in a larger, better-off city than the one I live in now.)

I've had luck with my local beauty college. 13 dollars for my thick, waist-length disaster and they've yet to ruin it.
