Hair today, wank tomorrow
[info]marveen posts in bad_service about a crappy hairstylist.

[info]amazonvera lets everyone know that if you only pay $12 for a haircut, you deserve what you get and you shouldn't bitch about it.

Short but sweet worth every penny.

I have to admit, I love having a beauty college in my town. I've gotten my hair cuts since forever there, and they always do a good job on my hair. And on top of that, it's only $7 for a shampoo and cut. One time I went to a professional salon to get my hair cut, and it was $15 for just a cut. They used a spray bottle to get it slightly damp and then cut it. And on top of that they lectured me about how using non-salon products will ruin my hair and I HAVE to buy salon products TODAY. I think I'll stick to the beauty college, thank you very much.

Wow, I wish I went to that cosmetology school! The one I dropped out of had teachers that vanished during clinic so I was lost when I was given a client who had green gack under her nails which she said was from ceramics glaze and she wanted her nails done to cover it up. And all us students had to pimp the pro products la la and I kept getting marked off because I refused to say "daily hair washing makes your hair oily" and "store products are bad for you".

Ha ha, what is really funny about haircutting schools is when you already have shortish hair, and you have to tell your haircutter/student, "Yes really. Really that short. Use your clippers, #2 setting. (Which is 1/2".) No I am not going to yell at you when it's done. Go get your teacher if you're too afraid to do it yourself."

...Apparently, an intentionally shaved nape is as rare as rubies in my town.

(I do see a considerable quality difference -- it's much more obvious in a short cut -- but when I've been skint, I've bit the bullet and gone to the school. When I'm flush, I go to a woman who doesn't have a flashy cut herself; and so I never feel like I am being entered in the Cool Olympics against my will when I sit in her chair.)

It might also have to do with the fact that the teachers watched the students like hawks at this school. The only time there wasn't a teacher supervising most (if not all) of the haircut was when I got someone who was in their last semester there, and even then the teacher had to okay it before the student could let me go.

Oh yes, that too -- but really, you could smell the fear coming off these poor women. I am going to accidentally shave her whole head!! And then I'll be fired/expelled and end up living in a VAN down by the RIVER!!1!"

It was the funniest thing, the exact opposite of a pro haircut experience: I was constantly telling jokes and reassuring the haircutter, rather than the other way around.

I do that too. Best is that they have to do a set number of specific base styles so you can get all kinds of kickass cuts out of it that you'd never think of getting otherwise.
