I cut my own hair by virtue of hacking off the last two inches of my pony tail every six months or so.

Pretty good actually. I'm thinking about doing the pony-tail on top of the head thing to see if I can get it to come out more even (I tend to have split end up front, but not in back), but it's not noticeably uneven.

You just need a sharp pair of scissors.
