Feministing Porn Wank
Over on feministing.com, Steven asks So I am wondering what the view of porn are here. How it affects men, women, society. Good affects, bad affects, all that stuff. among other things and spawns wank.

Lilith Luffles scores with the first mention of Andrea Dworkin's view of porn. In the replies to that, RuPaula and meeneecat debate women's cum shots.

Sarah whines that people who like porn don't watch her porn and has low reading comprehension.

In the same thread, porn stars (and all sex workers) are slaves of the patriarchry. Actually, all women are slaves of the patriarchy and nothing more than their bodies.

Rachel in WY complains that porn is made for men.

MASHBengal thinks written and animated porn are worse than live action porn and more demeaning. timothy_nakayama asked for her thoughts on yaoi, but she doesn't respond.

kaitlynva demands that someone think of the children.

Your fantasy is wrong. You're just a tool of the patriarchy.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought so. I was all, "He's either naive, fixin' for a fight, or a concern troll."

Uh, not in this context? If you replace "affect" with its' meaning (to influence), the sentence still sounds the same.

How it affects men, women, society.
How it influences men, women, society.

If you use "effect" (means result or to bring about), it sounds like this:

How it effects men, women, society.
How it results/brings about men, women, society.

So, uh, grammar lesson of the day? Or a sign that I have too much time on my hands and need to get back to studying? You decide.

I think funwithrage was referring to the sentence after that one...

Just sayin'.

That'd make sense. I just saw the quote and went 'Buh? Wait a minute there, why so ragey?'. Obviously I need more coffee. Coffee makes everything better.

"ITS!" "Its" without an apostrophe, dammit!

Is that the cast of Monty Python over the hill? They seem to be holding cans of spam and dead parrots. And they aren't pleased at all.

Uhm, if anyone asks, I've gone into hiding for a little bit.

And thus order is restored to the world, for the condescending post on how everyone is DOIN GRAMMAR WRONG is...doing grammar wrong.

I'm not sure if I love it when that happens, or if I want to stab someone.

You could lovingly stab someone?

Or just go read porn. I like that option.

Random, unrelated reply.

Bree! My niece is getting into fantasy romance writing and she showed me her first story. She doesn't suck! I'm so proud of her! (She's 14).

I have read posts on Metafilter and backstage at Wikipedia where people contend that "its" as a possessive makes no sense, and they are actively and consciously using "it's" as a possessive so that the usage will change to make more sense.

I think they are agents of the Antichrist, myself.

I don't think that was the part funwithrage was having the problem with. You're right that "how it affects men, women, society" properly uses "affects," but I think that the next part (the part she pointed out) really should be "good effects" and "bad effects."

Sorry, didn't know llama_treats was here before me. Didn't mean to dogpile.

Regarding the original wank, I will admit to giggling when someone asked for thoughts on yaoi.

Yeah, I was going by the part someone quoted earlier and got confused at what I thought was the sudden rage over it. My bad.

As for dogpiling, well, eh. This is one of the classier piles I've been in. I even get Python quotes.

Also, I admit that I got a giggle out of that too. You don't usually see that kind of phrase used literally these days.
