I really can't see what's the harm in this image, crayola non-toxic markers (and dogs don't lick themselves anyway really), child expressing their love for dog by drawing on it... and hey, the dog is probably a lot easier to take outside and give a bath too than the couch, so how is there anything but a kid and dog having fun in this situation? I mean, I handraise baby animals on occasion, and firmly believe in animal welfare... and that dog looks like a happy animal, the kid obviously loves the dog, and it's allowed up on the furniture so it's obviously a well-loved member of the family, and it looks very well cared for. Um, why are these people so enraged by all this? I could understand maybe people giving a finger way if it's chalk pastels as those are actually toxic hence your supposed to wear gloves, but hello?
