Save Spuds Mackenzie!!1!!
Soooo, a three year old kid broke out the Crayola washable markers and went to town on the family dog.

This being Cute Overload the response was immediate and predictable.

HORRIBLE PARENTING!

BAH! HORRIBLE CHILDFREE OVERREACTION!

YIKES! HORRIBLE THROW ON THAT COUCH!

That dog looks so chill.

It wouldn't have bitten the child's face off, it would have just... walked away. When you're three, if an animal doesn't like you, you can't do much.

(I used to live on a farm, and for many years, we had animals, like sheep. When I was five, I had a 'pet sheep' named Mary. She had a lamb. I know, I was such a creative child. I tried to pet the lamb, and Mary knocked me over. Didn't hurt me, just butted me over. I learned a valuable lesson about not petting baby animals and I was not traumatized for life. XD)

Our siamese cats educated us by biting us or occasionally giving us a swat when we played with their tales to much - and our parents just let it happen because they knew the cats were okay disciplinarians.

Her lamb's name was Candy.

I grew up with dogs - one in particular that I annoyed incessantly at three or four, and eventually she snapped at me (barely nipped my upper lip, broke the skin but did no permanent damage).

I learned a valuable lesson: Don't annoy the dog. Dog never did it again, and I didn't tell my mom because she would have (a) laughed at me and (b) given me the, "[info]shark, don't annoy the dog" lecture.

That dog's easily 85lbs - she could get up and go somewhere else if she wanted to and there'd be nothing the kid could do about it.

A couple I used to work with had an umbrella cockatoo (actually, they had several) and a small hyperactive boy. Despite their best efforts the kid kept teasing the hen whenever she was in her cage. One day while she was out of her cage and he was asleep on the couch she snuck down off her perch, climbed on the couch, and bit him on his butt. Not hard enough to break the skin, mind (cockatoos can do serious damage if they want), just hard enough to bruise.

After that, he left the birds alone.

Yeah, that's why the rule at the store I used to work at was that male cockatoos were not allowed anywhere near your face. Males especially are prone to biting for a variety of reasons (looks like that one was pair-bonded with the other 'too). Females aren't as bad about biting, but are still capable of it.
