Save Spuds Mackenzie!!1!!
Soooo, a three year old kid broke out the Crayola washable markers and went to town on the family dog.

This being Cute Overload the response was immediate and predictable.

HORRIBLE PARENTING!

BAH! HORRIBLE CHILDFREE OVERREACTION!

YIKES! HORRIBLE THROW ON THAT COUCH!

I really can't see what's the harm in this image, crayola non-toxic markers (and dogs don't lick themselves anyway really), child expressing their love for dog by drawing on it... and hey, the dog is probably a lot easier to take outside and give a bath too than the couch, so how is there anything but a kid and dog having fun in this situation?

I mean, I handraise baby animals on occasion, and firmly believe in animal welfare... and that dog looks like a happy animal, the kid obviously loves the dog, and it's allowed up on the furniture so it's obviously a well-loved member of the family, and it looks very well cared for.

Um, why are these people so enraged by all this?

I could understand maybe people giving a finger way if it's chalk pastels as those are actually toxic hence your supposed to wear gloves, but hello? Crayola non-toxic washable markers?

But you don't UNDERSTAND! The kid will grow up to be a MONSTER because his parents let him DRAW ON A DOG when he was three!!! O NOEZ!!!!!

. . . fr srs, if he didn't have a dog, he'd be drawing on his baby sister. And Mom would still take a picture. As she should.

One of the commenters who was telling the "ZOMG MONSTER!" woman to chill the hell out is an animal-welfare worker. She basically said that she sees such horrible things every day that this doesn't even register. I'm in agreement. The dog doesn't appear to mind, so what's the damage?

I know, I mean I've been involved in caring for some kittens in the last couple of years, and I mean, my family has rescued them from situations where they're allowed to starve to death and live in their own filth, and die for entirely avoideable reasons.

The fact that a kid is being raised to love his dog and treat it as a member of the family and allow itup on the couch? How is there even a remote possibility of that not being a *GOOD THING*?

I don't think the child was drawing on those bits though.

Chalk pastels or oil pastels? I knew oil pastels were SRS BZNESS but I thought chalk pastels were okay. I use them to give my dolls pretty faces. ;-;

Chalk pastels, as I recall hearing from another student in an illustration calss who worked in an art supply store, and was confirmed by a tutor.
Just through Googling I've turned up some links which seem to indicate you should wear a mask over your face to avoid inhilation.

This link is an overview about general health and safety in art supplies:
