Same sex couples physically can’t have children, therefore, there is no point to the relationship.

Anti-gay ad in the Salt Lake Tribune is posted for discussino at KVNU’s For The People
http://kvnuforthepeople.com/2009/02/16/anti-gay-ad-in-the-salt-lake-tribune/

The comments are a general chorus disgust at the content and making fun of the horrible design. Until "Kaye" chimes in, starting with "I’m straight but I have plenty of gay friends" and ending by bringing Hitler into it. After that it's non-stop fun.

ETA: My mistake. This should be in [info]unfunnybusiness

ETA2: To clarify: Homophobia is not funny. People who invoke Godwin's should be mocked mercilessly.

You know, I've got to do that color thing with my communities. Because I always use my last tiny shred of faith in humanity and assume that shit like this is in [info]unfunnybusiness. Then, of course, I realize how very wrong I am.

You could pretend... If that will help save your last shred of faith in humanity.

Or you could post things in the right spot. And then we would all win!

hahaha. Yes I could. But, well, *I* thought it was funny. I mean, if you can't laugh at homophobes, what can you laugh at?

Really? You really went there? You seriously went OMG Hardy Har Har homophobes? Really? You sat down and went through your list of funny and pulled up homophobia? And you didn't think maybe people might be offended at your casual attitude towards hate? That, just possibly, there might be people who don't find the denial of civil rights a hootenanny? Really? That didn't cross your mind? Huh.

This rant style brought to you by my discovery of HULU and subsequent overdose on Weekend Update

Yes, I went there. My point being how can you take these people seriously after you hear their arguments. From statements like "A same sex couple just physically can’t [procreate], therefore, there really is no point to the relationship. It’s a dead end…which is why the constant battle for marriage rights is just a joke." to comparing people who suppport gay rights to Hitler. It's all more than just a little ridiculous.

Since no one involved in posting or commenting there is actually denying anyone their civil rights, I don't see how it applies.

I can agree that no one here finds it funny. And for that I can apologize.

"Ridiculous" and "funny" are not necessarily the same thing.

Your privilege is showing, you might want to tuck that back in.

My point being how can you take these people seriously after you hear their arguments.

How? How about after they made it illegal for me to marry, not just illegal, unconstitutional? Want me to list off all the crimes that are heinous but not unconstitutional? Or after they stopped my university system from giving benefits to homosexual's partners? Or after I realized these are the same people who see homosexuals and beat and murder them?

Yeah, you're right, these people are just hi-fucking-larious.

We get it, we get it, you think it's funny. And I think you're a dick for being dismissive of homophobia rather than taking it seriously.

umm... not dismissive of homophobia. Dismissive of people who compare gay rights supporters to Hitler.

People who compare gay rights supporters to Hitler are homophobic, you blithering idiot. Homophobia doesn't start at gays getting the beaten up, it starts with the insidious shit like this. Check your ignorance and your privelege, some of us have to live with the RL consequences of people who think like this AND WE DON'T FIND THOSE CONSEQUENCES FUNNY!

I'm sorry. You're an idiot. I never said homophobia or the consequences of it are funny. The ad and the homophobia are not what amused me. However, things like "Oh NOEZ! Big scary homo black dudez are gonna steal your young, impressionable white boyz!" made me laugh.

Fuck, you're ignorant. How many people is it going to take to tell you "your privelege is showing, this is not funny," before it dawns on you that maybe it isn't as funny as you think it is.

About as many as it takes you to understand I never said "zomg! homophobia! lolz, hilarious!" I am truly sorry that anyone was offended. I’m sorry that it’s not funny. I’ve already said it should have been in unfunnybusiness, and that was my mistake. But you don’t appear to be interested acknowledging any of that. You’d rather sit on your high horse, assume you know anything about me, put words in my mouth and call me names. So far you've called me a dick, a blithering idiot and ignorant. Thanks. It’s been truly enlightening. Sorry I let my “privilege” show.

Protip, this: I can agree that no one here finds it funny. And for that I can apologize. is a fauxpology. You are saying "I'm sorry you guys don't have a sense of humour." Yeah, we don't find homophobia funny. They may be spouting bullcrap, but for as long as that bullcrap leads to peoples' marriages becoming illegal and gay people being treated as less than human, that bullcrap will not be funny.

What I see is you traipsing about the comments whining that it's funny and comedy gold really, and using another person's attempt to salvage something from this mess as validation (much to their horror.)

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck I'm going to call it a duck. If you don't want to be called an ignoarant, blithering idiot then don't act like one.

Maybe I should just friend that comm so I don't end up with that pesky headache from head desking every time I see something like this on the other comms. Clearly not having [info]unfunnybusinesson my flist doesn't mean I'm avoiding the actual unfunny business.
