As a slash fan and writer, I'd appreciate a bit more respect.
(This is maybe more [info]fandom_lounge-y, but most of the comments are fairly wanky.)

Local rag reviews book, enrages slash fans.

The Stranger's Internet policy is basically to troll the hell out of their readers and then giggle about the long message board threads. Consider this Critical Mass post (and its sequel), which are there just to outrage people, who then outrage other people.

Yeah, the Stranger's comments are typically the definition of 'oft wank'; I liked this one because of the earnest defenses the random slash fan crowd was mounting.

There's a reason I gave up reading Savage Love. Life's too short to deliberately read a column that (probably intentionally) pisses me off every two to three weeks.

Maybe you didn't know! I also didn't! But now that we know, we are permanently impregnated with little brainbabies

As if arsebabies weren't enough, slash now brings us brainbabies!

I'll leave it up you, otf_wank, and your fertile imaginations to determine the means of impregnation, gestation and birth.

Oh that's easy. The slashfans swallowed the mother whole when the mother was pregnant, and when the baby is ready it will burst out of their foreheads. The Greeks had this figured out centuries ago.

Directly insulting the fans you're trying to rile up is bad form. Like bringing a Humvee with a machine gun to a fox hunt.

Men are now getting a tiny taste of what women have been dealing with for years, and they can barely deal with it, the poor souls. And we're supposed to be the weaker sex.

She's still in that "Tee-hee OMG slash is so naughty" stage. Which would have been rather charmingly naive if she weren't being such a complete misogynistic douche about it. She also appears to be a bit slow if she couldn't make the leap between the huge reams of slash fanfiction and publishing houses eager to cash in on a new genre.

The book sounds like utter trash.

This comment here for some reason pissed me off and made me laugh at the same time.

Aren't historical romances supposed to have a happy ending?

To be historically accurate, a 1600's gay romance would have to end with a big bonfire. Not a happy ending.

I've never quite understood this written by women for women thing. Because sometimes gay characters can also have empathy, that makes them girly and unrealistic? I don't know.
