gala darling: trust fund visionary?
Gala Darling is a self-described "visionary" who is famous mainly for having pink hair, being an "international playgirl", starting the Things I Love Thursday meme, and writing articles about living a fabulous life and being fashionable. Her audience consists mainly of young teenage/young adult girls who swarm her comments both on GalaDarling.com and on her personal site.

Gala's story is that she quit the 9-5 life to be a full-time blogger, and that almost all her income comes from blogging professionally through ad sales and sponsorships, as well as freelance writing. However, lately there's been a rash of comments on articles mentioning her claiming she is a fraud and really is a trust fund kid with rich parents. People who bought one of her podcasts about starting a business were disappointed at the lack of information on how Gala earns her money exactly.

It all comes to a head on her cover article on Cut Out + Keep, where various people - including someone claiming to be Gala's former good friend, speculate that she is either a trust fund kid, uses boyfriends for money, or is a high-class prostitute. In the meantime, Gala's devoted fans stand by their idol, claiming that "it's illegal to post untruths on the Internet" and that her critics are negative people with no lives. Meanwhile, Gala's denied the trust fund story; her only comment on her income currently is "it's none of your business".

(disclaimer: I'm in the comments of the Cut Out + Keep article as Tiara.)
edit: added a couple more links, including a direct link to the "illegal to post untruths" comment.

Huh. There's something about her photos that is really weird, and I can't just place my finger on what it is. Please, someone, tell me why Gala Darling sits so heavily in the uncanny valley?

Also, lololololololol: it's illegal to post untruths on the internet. Srsly? Someone ACTUALLY said that?!

Yeah, in the "devoted fans" link in the comments. Gala doesn't seem to care either way, which just annoys the haters more.

personally I'm just there for the linkspam XD

I think it's her nose. She's overshopping it, so the tip of her nose just kind of vanishes off into the ether. At some angles it looks like her face ends in some kind of blurry beak. Ew.

Maybe she's a part-time model.

I think she does actually do some sort of modelling; she did mention something about a film audition, so I won't be too surprised.

Now I've got that Flight of the Conchords song stuck in my head. "You're so beautiful... like a treeeeee... or a high-class prostitute..."

Maybe she's involved with furry fandom, where she claims she has fatal illness in order to rake in the free trips, no-strings-attached sex, and lip gloss.

Hey, weirder things have happened.

Is it bad that the only thing I can think is, "POINT YOUR TOES OUT WOMAN, GEEZ! You have lovely legs, now STAND UP."

Nothing drives me up the wall faster than that affected pidgeon-toed cutesy pose. It's like the next MySpace-ducklips.

OMG, that pose + half-open slack-jawed mouth! I call it the "model sex-mouth" because it seems to be popular with fashion mags. And everyone who uses it ends up looking like they're so high/hungry that they're little more than automatons.

God, yes. Recently, there are quite a lot of people using icons on LJ that depict only the lower part of some girl with short skirts, standing like that, and I always wonder what on earth is supposed to be aesthetically pleasing about them. I think it is some "child poses are sexy" thing that my feminist self rebels against, in addition to it being downright creepy.

WTF? I guess I've been living under a rock, but it's now attractive to be pidgeon-toed?! I guess I'll keep that in mind every time I stumble over my own feet and end up scrambling to not land on my face.

Actually, Gala is a bloodthirsty warlord, posting things on the laptop she got from sacrificing virgins to the volcano god, as she sits atop a throne of skulls.

OMG I just broke the law lolz.

Okay, wait a second. If you have pink hair, like old things, and occasionally make stuff, you're a visionary?

I've got pink hair, like old things, and make stuff. Why aren't I a "visionary"?

I suppose it says more about my fashion sense, but I don't think her outfits are all that fantastic, she's not that pretty, and she doesn't see that awesome a writer.

So.

Why is she famous, again?

I have no clue who this woman is and I'm really not all that interested, to be honest. Considering some of the "celebs" who are really popular these days though, this one doesn't seem so bad. I have purple hair though! Can I be famous now?

If anyone ever asks my best friend how much money she makes a year, or the families combined income for that matter, they get told to mind their own business. I fail to see a problem with that.

The travel tips were generic, but good.

Would she do this with a straight face??
