HOW DARE YOU CALL ME FAT
Mars from Chicken Dinner Candybar does her regular Fat Love Friday and includes Marie from Agent Lover.

Marie is put off by her inclusion on a "fat" list and tells Mars so.

Mars offers to take it down. Marie refuses. Instead, she proclaims on her blog, "oh haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaale no!

Chaos ensues in the comments about fatphobia, body acceptance, fashion sense (or the lack thereof), and kissing-up commentors.

Is Marie brave or is she overreacting?

(I'm in the comments and I know Natalie [the 'overreacting' link], so I am slightly involved in the wank aftermath. It's pretty obvious which side i'm on.)

Except when they totally aren't. And that includes people who can't put on weight as well.

Seriously. It doesn't matter what I eat or don't, how much I exercise or don't, I have not changed size in about six years. My metabolism is absurd. I'm just lucky I got over the underweight hump long enough to settle on a healthy weight.

Same boat here.

Actually, funny thing is, due to my job involving heavy lifting, I gained about 15 pounds the first year I was working at it, all muscle. Still wearing pants I got back in high school. But now I'm not underweight according to the medical charts, so I'll live with it. First time in twenty years I've not had doctors insisting that I secretly had an eating disorder!

(Weight's a horrible guideline for health anyway.)

Just here to go 'Yup', really. There's a fuckload of things we can control. All the things that look like they should make dieting/losing weight/gaining weight work. We can't control the major thing, though, which is our bodies. We can't control how it responds to things at all.

I know it would be easier for me to gain weight and move away from Skeletor Valley if I was able to eat even normal amounts of sugar/sweet things. But because I can't stand being a hyperactive buzzing thing and really don't like the accompanying migraines (yay for intolerances...) I can't. Junk food makes me lose weight because my body goes 'Waaaaah! Nutrients!'.

I hate this whole 'You have control over your body!'. Fuck no, I don't. It does what it damned well pleases and I wish everyone would stop buying into the whole myth of the body being totally subject to the mind or self-control.
