No one wanks as hard as knitters do. Except maybe spinners.
Blogger Sharon Pelletier writes a satirical post about a local spinning event at her library.

Not everyone is impressed.

At this point, I don't feel that you are a decent person because you failed in being mature enough to go outside your comfort zone, and instead chose to call names.

Though there is still some disagreement in the ranks:

Knitting "networking" sites like Ravelry have congealed knitters into a writhing, slimy glob of Bitch that ooze across the internet wielding knitting needles and a smug sense of superiority.

76 mostly angry comments later, she posts a follow-up explaining that no, she was trying to be funny, she does not think PETA needed to be informed, and she really does not think spinners are witches, either.

Reaction so far is mostly positive, though you never know with knitters, spinners and even those rebellious crocheters.

ETA a verb. Verbs are important.

OK, the event she describes is definitively...odd. My brain kind of stopped somewhere around the rabbit. It's a rabbit. In a library. Buh?

Anyways, the knitters in the OP are awfully knee-jerk defensive and the OP seems...well, kind of bitchy, really. I do so love it when both sides of an argument are deserving of mockery. Silly knitters, spinnners, and crochet people. Needlepoint is where it's at.

What? You forgot counted cross-stitch! I see your needlepoint and save you about $100 and go for cross-stitching!

;)

But it's hard to get the blood out of the Aida when you inevitably stab yourself.

Oh, I'm not the only person who makes themselves bleed with blunt tipped cross-stitch needles?

I MEAN: If you don't bleed, you're not REALLY invested!

Only hard-core cross-stitchers bleed, dammit!

Sadly, I haven't done anything since I had a kid. For a while, I just didn't want to stab the baby, but then I found knitting and it was so. Much. Simpler. Also, I injured myself less.

You say it's simpler! But then, I like to knit lace. Thus, cross-stitching is much easier than knitting lace.

My only common injuries are overuse in both events.

I like simple lace. Anything complex is taking time away from my valuable television time.

Well, giving my counting issues, I'm not sure I've found any simple lace. Though I did make it about 90% of the way through the Juno Regina stole before forgetting how to count!

I can usually do it if I can 'see' the pattern, so 2-5 row repeats are okay. Past that...not so much.

Then, I'm terrified to knit actual clothes because the idea that the pieces have to match? And then fit? How's that lace stole working out for me? Much less stress!

I always manage to stab myself under my thumbnail. Owie. :(

I raise you to being able to buy material in bulk and go for Hardanger! You only need one color!

Actually, do I count the cost of prescription glasses and fancy-smancy lightbulbs in with the supplies? 'Cause if I do Hardanger for too long in the wrong light I go cross-eyed.

And yet my 70 yr old grandma with arthritis and cataracts still does it prettier than me. :(

I don't count the fancy lightbulbs in my cost... it's part of doing business! And, of course, your grandma has been doing it much longer, probably doing it by feel. Hardanger scares me - cut my fabric? What? WHY!!!

Hmmm. I must belong with the non-existant bi-sexuals, etc. Given that I do all of the above.(1)

Though right now I'm obsessed with chainmaille.

(1) Caveat - most of the spinners, weavers, knitters, etc. I know are in much the same boat. We all have too much fiber, too.
