No one wanks as hard as knitters do. Except maybe spinners.
Blogger Sharon Pelletier writes a satirical post about a local spinning event at her library.

Not everyone is impressed.

At this point, I don't feel that you are a decent person because you failed in being mature enough to go outside your comfort zone, and instead chose to call names.

Though there is still some disagreement in the ranks:

Knitting "networking" sites like Ravelry have congealed knitters into a writhing, slimy glob of Bitch that ooze across the internet wielding knitting needles and a smug sense of superiority.

76 mostly angry comments later, she posts a follow-up explaining that no, she was trying to be funny, she does not think PETA needed to be informed, and she really does not think spinners are witches, either.

Reaction so far is mostly positive, though you never know with knitters, spinners and even those rebellious crocheters.

ETA a verb. Verbs are important.

I also can't crochet. AT ALL. I don't know why, I've been told it's easier than knitting, but I just... fail. :(

Me too. I can sort of outsmart what the stitch is supposed to do, but I can't keep an even tension.

Or any tension at all, really.

Tension is the really hard part. I have a fishnet-pattern shawl that has the most amazing width changes because I learned tension partway through. Also enhanced my petty assortment of RSIs, but it comes with the territory.

Yeah, I tried those square needles that're supposed to be better at my LYS this weekend. They were fine but I didn't notice my wrists feeling any better!

I managed to figure out how to crochet a chain, and that's all I know how to do. I think I sort of figured out how to do a single crochet, but it didn't look right so I got bored and wandered off to photograph one of my toy stormtroopers wearing my chain like a boa.

Me neither. I even managed to figure out Fair Isle, but I cannot for the life of me wrap my head around a crochet stitch.

I had a friend try to teach me to crochet, but she looked at a couple of my first attempts and declared that if the laws of physics and geometry stop working as soon as I pick up yarn, there's nothing she could do.

Me too. I can knit, embroider, tat, and do all sorts of fiber-y stuff, but I just can't get crochet to work.

My crochet-angst, let me show you it.

Oh, I can't crochet either. I mean, I can, but not enough to do its own project, just enough to fix knitting errors or add a quick trim or something. I just can't get the tension and/or the flow. Faaaail.

I can do pretty much all the other fibre arts but crochet and spinning. And yet, those are the ones I want to learn how to do. Of course!

Same here, and that's when there's no possibility that my bump of roving might run off at any time.
