No one wanks as hard as knitters do. Except maybe spinners.
Blogger Sharon Pelletier writes a satirical post about a local spinning event at her library.

Not everyone is impressed.

At this point, I don't feel that you are a decent person because you failed in being mature enough to go outside your comfort zone, and instead chose to call names.

Though there is still some disagreement in the ranks:

Knitting "networking" sites like Ravelry have congealed knitters into a writhing, slimy glob of Bitch that ooze across the internet wielding knitting needles and a smug sense of superiority.

76 mostly angry comments later, she posts a follow-up explaining that no, she was trying to be funny, she does not think PETA needed to be informed, and she really does not think spinners are witches, either.

Reaction so far is mostly positive, though you never know with knitters, spinners and even those rebellious crocheters.

ETA a verb. Verbs are important.

for saying that handmade sweaters are itchy

Really? That seems rather over-sensitive. I mean, hand-knitted sweaters DO tend to be itchy. Especially if they're made of wool. Unless it's ultra ULTRA soft, I can't have that stuff next to my skin at all.

And yeah, MO ROCCA? I'd be hard put to find someone LESS offensive than Mo.

Don't ever tell a certain segment of knitters that wool is itchy. They will tell you all the reasons it's not. They have charts. They are a bit scary. Mind you, wool doesn't bother me much, but alpaca does, and they'll swear that alpaca is never scratchy....

Yeah, I've gotten that. I'm allergic to all that shit-- wool, mohair, alpaca, all of it. They're welcome to examine the fucking rash.

(These are the same people who are all snotty about using acrylic. Which doesn't itch (as much).)

Heh. Yes, there does seem to be a lot of snobbery about that. Makes me want to take a look at all the clothing tags in their closet. Unless every item is made from natural fibers, I'd have to call FAIL.

*snorfle* I wonder how they'd react to some male doctor telling them those awful cramps are just their imaginations, and they should take his word for it that there really is no pain at all. Bet they'd scream a blue streak.
