So. Much. Stupid.
This guy is campaigning for his LEGITIMATE RIGHT to send text messages during class, over the protests of his "tyrannical" professors. There is tremendous wanking, scroll to any random point on the page and you will find some. Be warned, when you stare into the stupid, the stupid, entitled fuckwad stares into you.

I tell my students that if their phone rings in class, they're going to owe me an accurate melodic dictation of their cell phone ring. Haven't had any problems with them yet.

I probably can't enforce that requirement in the library science department, but it sounds awesome. :D

Just make them create a bibliographic record for their ringtone. Or create a Children's program on being rude. Or a YA program on creating your own ringtone. (Hey... Gonna file that one away for later use.) Or make them lead a class discussion on various library policies on cell phones, or... actually I've run out ideas now. But be secure in the knowledge that most of your students, if they haven't developed a chronic aversion to inappropriate cell phone use already, will after overhearing their first TMI patron conversation while shelving.

Oooh, selecting the appropriate Dewey and LC classifications for the ringtone might work...

I FULLY ENDORSE THIS and if I ever pursue my goal of teaching music at the collegiate level, I intend to swipe it. With full credit, of course.

Though I confess I may actually give anyone who manages to pull off an accurate melodic dictation of certain cell phone rings extra credit.

You know? I could actually probably do that if you asked me - and my current ringtone is the theme from The Chaser Decides (link is to a .mid file I transcribed myself). :)

Of course, it would never happen, because I'm not an entitled douchewaffle and I always keep my phone on silent during lectures.
