Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Plushenko himself say that the platinum medal wasn't an award *from himself*, but a joke coming from Russian media? If it's true, then the whole "platinum medal" deal would be just a small thing that it's been taken way out of context and/or blown out of proportion by American media - while trying to create a rivalry between Lycasek and Plushenko at any costs, painting one as an angel and the other as acommie monster.
As for me, this fanart says a lot. Oh, Hetalia fandom.
